S77th-GOYA Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 F-15 - 1371 knots - Mach 2.386 MiG-29S - 1382 knots - Mach 2.406 Su-27 - 1330 knots - Mach 2.316 All speeds achieved at ~36,200 feet, clean configuration, just before all fuel consumed. The generally accepted real-world speeds for these aircraft at altitude are: F-15 - Mach 2.5 MiG-29 - Mach 2.3 Su-27 - Mach 2.35

(The same goes for the F-15C I guess) Test was done with version 1.12a (Top speed: mach 2.5+). And with 10° dive: http://users.skynet.be/VandenHaute/locon/su27_mach_25_2.jpg I don’t know about RL but I think the F-15 is a little faster than the su-27! The thing is the planes are capable to reach these top speeds but it is not a good idea to stress these engines like that. After these stunts in RL the engines needs an expensive revision. Pilotasso Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Thats barely above mach 2, if at all (no calculations donne) .
TucksonSonny Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Top Speeds are recorded at level flight dude Only the mach meter is showing the correct (true) speed at whatever altitude. The mig-31 reaches top speed at Mach 2.8 @+75.000ft (23.000m) while the Concorde reaches his top speed (Mach 2.05) @40.000ft. Top speed altitude depends on the type of the plane dude. Cobra360 Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 He was talking about the 10 degree dive, it's not a true top speed as it's getting help from gravity, same as if it was getting help from a jet stream. The true top speed of a aircraft is measured when it is flying level regardless of AoA with no high alt winds. And most fighters record their top speed between 35k to 40k. MiG-25 and 31 and the YF-12/SR-71 being some of the exceptions.
Cobra360 Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 On another note, how high can you get the F-15 and MiG-29. IRL both the MiG-29 and F-15 have reached 90-100k, you can bet they didn't stay there very long. A MiG-29 even did reached 92,000ft with a 100kg payload.
