Greetings,

I'm new to the DCS series. My previous flight sims were Falcon 4 (vanilla, Superpak, Allied Force and BMS), IL-2 Sturmovik, Pacific Figthers, IL-2 COD, B-17: Mighty Eighth, WWII fighters and DOS-based sims (Aces over Pacifc and Aces over Europe by EA, etc.)

I've never been a good virtual pilot especially when it comes to dogfights, mid-air refueling, formation flying and most importantly landing. I don't own a very good controller (currently using the Saitek ST290 Pro). However, I do plan on ordering the Saitek X-55 rhino, CH pro Pedals and TrackIR 5 in December.

1. Right now I want some tips on setting up my controls properly as the Huey bobs around the airfield when I'm in the cockpit. I can never hover (IGE) in one position for more than 10 seconds and I always land in a different place than the one I intended to land in (that is if I don't crash). I was watching a survival guide on youtube by ExcessiveHeadspace. I think that the flight model has been changed since that video was released hence I'd like to know what kind of curves should I use on my axes?

2. How do I change to hover out of ground effect from forward flying without getting into trouble?

1-You want VERY soft controls on the Huey, you make Constant little inputs with all Axis

2-be very careful and gentle, watch your Rate of Climb, make sure it doesnt start sinking thats when you get into a VRS and start falling. make soft inputs with all controls including the throttle. Ide suggest some mods here, that Add some Saftey features to the Gauges so you can see easier whats good and bad.

The hardest part of the huey is landing and Hovering while in ground effect. heres a Tip when you get it into a Hover, turn the AP on and use Ctrl-Enter to see the inputs teh AP is making in order to hover. happy flying and join MP!

Hi I would suggest that until your rudder pedals arrive your never going to be handling the huey as well as you would like. Certainly that was true for me. My saitek set broke the same week I bought it and it was a while before they where replaced. Also plenty of practice is required before you can be really proficient. Not having used the stick you have I cannot comment on curves for it but if it feels too sensitive play around with axis tuning. Start by introducing a curve of 15-20 on your pitch and yaw and the same with your collective to see how it goes. Oh and did I mention practice:)

Also trim little and often:thumbup:

To gain forward motion trim stick slightly forward keep your collective the same as in hover and as you move forward into clean air you will get translation lift

Hi. For me...no need for rudder pedals. You can learn everything with patience. No controls setting will help You by some miracle to control this beast. It´s all about practice and patience. Hope You will enjoy it soon. It´s very satisfying when the chopper does exactly what You want.
