ValleyOfSolace Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 (edited) So... I've owned DCS World for over 2 years now and have never been able to connect online. I was okay with this for about a year and 2 months because hell, it was free. About 8 months ago, I decided to purchase a module for a friend and I but realized that the online service still doesn't work. I looked relentlessly for weeks to resolve my issue; ranging from Uninstalling DCS, Uninstalling Steam, Shutting off my Antivirus(AVG), disabling my windows firewall, opening ports on my router, Flushing my DNS, deleting those network configuration files, sending my logs to ED support, disabling protective features on my router... I don't know what else to try anymore, so I've decided to air my issue to the community. I thought I could independently resolve the issue, however, I faced a quite rude awakening looking at how long and hard I've tried to fix this. Any help is appreciated. Also, things that can be ruled out due to plain obviousness if the former paragraph was read. Rebooting my PC Rebooting My Modem/Router Ticket With ED(They don't handle network issues) Information that I think is relevant: Windows 8.1 Pro Game Version: 1.2.10.32275 Antivirus(AVG Free) Router: Linksys, Model #:WRT54G Ports attempted to be opened: 10308/5222{Perhaps I didn't open them correctly, although i've been trying for months} Photo of my logs>>> http://gyazo.com/fdb8c26670402cd39e2da1fe12bfe0bf Thank you for your time. Devrim Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Hi. No location info on your profile. Sometime user can not connect due to ISP issues - I thought, but it's obvious you've not ISP problem there. And also I guess you've done everything on your PC. By the way, how you get that error message? You enter username and password and click OK. You get that message in same second, or DCS tries to connect to Master for a few seconds (3~8 secs) and returns this message? BitMaster Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 (edited) Hey, to check if your home user router is blocking port 5222 with tcp protocol, try telnet command. You may have to install telnet client from your Win7 sources through control panel. this is what it looks like on my Mac: macbookprolars:~ Lars$ telnet master.eagle.ru 5222 Trying 178.33.39.35... Connected to master.eagle.ru. Escape character is '^]'. hello <?xml version='1.0'?><stream:stream xmlns='jabber:client' xmlns:stream='http://etherx.jabber.org/streams' id='1654819202' from='master.eagle.ru' version='1.0'><stream:error><xml-not-well-formed xmlns='urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-streams'/></stream:error></stream:stream>Connection closed by foreign host. macbookprolars:~ Lars$ ...the hello is what I typed if you get some kind of response, your port is open, which is very likely the case as standard routers that come from your ISP or E-Mart only do basic NAT fire walling and are not capable of filtering outgoing traffic by port and source/destination IP. Some do, if you configure them, but none does out of the box. BUT Any Software Firewall on your PC can do that, including Windows Firewall. You have to make sure that it either is COMPLETELY turned off or that is properly configured to let traffic pass through on that port with that protocol from 0.0.0.0 ( any IP or your subnet in example 192.168.1.0/24 or 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 ) to 0.0.0.0 ( any IP or ED's IP ). I don't think you have to adjust your hardware router but may have to even deinstall your software Firewall. Some still block certain ports and protocols even when to seem turned off. Do the telnet test to see if, you can also telnet from your mobile device with many apps while you are on your WiFi. If it works on wifi with smartphone but not from your PC it is your PC causing it. If it fails on both, then I'd check the hardware route first. There are many free apps for network basics for the popular mobile platforms. They are pretty cool to have a 2nd device to check things with... for general usage as a networker or home lan enthusiast. Devrim Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 If c0ff is right, it's not important what you're looking at and looking for. What c0ff said was what I tried to say at the beginning. That is my suspicion. Sometimes some internet users can not connect some pages/web sites for no reason. Actually of course there's a reason, the reason is caused by ISPs. For example, I can not connect to http://www.combat-helo.com/ for ages. It's impossible for me. I hope your ISP guys solve the problem man. BitMaster Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Glad to have helped a you but we aint there yet. If you don't mind, just for excluding reasons, can you completely deinstall either the module AVG-Firewall from the AVG-Suite or if you have to the complete AV Suite for a try. If I recall correctly, some with AVG had errors when updating in the past and such. One could debate on how useful such a firewall is but I am not gonna do that, no I ain't ! ... I am not going to ! basta !! If it turns out to be your Software Firewall, I'd just skip it and turn on Windows Firewall. It basically has all functions port and protocol wise, and even more if you want to mess with it. It is no good start to protect the system from within the system, the guards must be surrounding the victim and protect it before it hits it. A Software Firewall is like training the victim some karate so it knows how to defend if someone attacks it. I think it is better to put that external and keep the Workstation sleeker. Usually a NAT firewall is all one needs for home use and home knowledge, in times of IPv6 that may change dramatically, no one knows yet... LoL that's gonna be a disaster of the finest grade. BitMaster Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I think your AVG web security part of the Suite stumbles over the certificate from the web server, either it doesnt know the root-ca or has it on a Blacklist or just a processing error inside the https checker, something like this is not uncommon and AVG wouldn't be in bad neighborhood. could that be ? does that suite have a Webbrowser Protection module maybe ??? just curious Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
