Vorhaut Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Hello, my LockON Flaming Cliffs lags with my High End PC. Why ? I got a AMD 64 3800 Dual Core CPU, a Gainward 7800 GTX Graphic Card, 1024 MB Ram from Corsair (XMS Pro on Lat. : 2,3,3,6), a very fast SATA HDD from Seagate....and a Thrustmaster Hotas Cougar It does not depend on the resolution or an the gfx detail. It's lways the same. For Example when im flying over a City, i can see the Terain arround me which is not going by without lag. It seems like my System is to slow. But it isnt. I always got enough FPS and evenother games are running perfekt in best resolution and GFX detail. What can i do to fix that, that my LockOn runs perfekt ? Im sorry, but my problem is a little bit hard to describe ;) Could this problem causes of my two CPUs ? Please Help !
Cobra360 Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Just to let you know, a single core 3800 is faster than a dual core 3800 in LOMAC as the game does not take advantage of dual core cpus at all. 2048Mb of RAM helps, it made the game run nice and smooth when I upgraded from a 1024Mb.
Vorhaut Posted March 22, 2006 Author Posted March 22, 2006 Hello, yes i know that a 3800 single core is better for gaming but i used it more for multitasking on windows. i just thought that this maybe the problem. Like i know, Borland Interbase 6 Database got also a Problem with Multicore or even with Hyperthreading. Do you really think that this might be besster with 2 Gig Ram ? Normaly 1 Gig is enough and the 2 Gigs got no better performace for Gaming. Only in Server applications. Thats my experiences.
Cobra360 Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Well for me the 2gigs of RAM made a difference. I'm running a 3200+ 754, 6800GT, going from 1 to 2 gigs did make a difference. I can put more settings up on high and keep a good frame rate which I could not do before. There are others here that say that they will not go back to playing Lockon with less than 2 gigs of RAM. But looking at your specs I cannot understand why you are having the slow down you describe. Every thing about your system is up there. All I can think is that there may be some programs running in the background that my be hogging some system performance.
Andrew_McP Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Hello, my LockON Flaming Cliffs lags with my High End PC. A dual core 3800 isn't really a high end processor, it only runs at 2GHz. Yes, two cores are nice for some software, but for most it's just a waste of a core (I know, I have one! :-). I overclocked mine from 2.0GHz to 2.4, but LOMAC wants a *lot* more CPU speed to make it run quickly over large towns. This post... http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=14757 ...and the benchmarks I carried out at a variety of speeds on my old PC and the new one might help you understand how demanding LOMAC is. Nothing will make LOMAC run smoothly over big towns, not even a 3GHz CPU, I'm sure. Andrew McP
Cobra360 Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 What you are forgetting is that a single core 3800+ running at 2.4Ghz is faster in all games than a 3Ghz P4 or any other P4 priced in the same range. Clockspeed means very little in AMD CPUs.
Andrew_McP Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I appreciate the Intel/AMD difference (as should anyone else who's been awake for the last five years :-), but if you look at my benchmarks you'll see that in most cases the 64 bit AMD processor isn't significantly faster than older 32-bit AMD processors. LOMAC seems to benefit disproportionately from the new architecture, but MHz is still what matters most, and the basic, 2GHz x2 3800 isn't going to impress anyone unless it's been a few years since they upgraded. Most importantly, my LOMAC "real world use" benchmarks show that even if average benchmarks go up noticeably, they don't go up enough to make minimum frame rates acceptable in busy situations (unless you use the lowest viewing distance). Until LOMAC is rewritten to benefit from the acceleration DX9 can offer, this will always be the case. So we should get used to it. :-) Andrew McP
Vorhaut Posted March 24, 2006 Author Posted March 24, 2006 what i don't understand is that my new computer seems to be slower in lockon than my old one. but all other games can be played at the highest resoltution with the best gfx detail. why could it be that lockon begins to lag or i should say runs not smoothly with a dual 3800 and a gainward 7800 gtx where i can get more power cause of water cooling system if i want to. and my very fast corsair ram at 2,3,3,6 dual channel rams. also when i will take my highest overclockin profile, lockon runs bad. i think its not nessesary to talk about that dual lockon does not support the power of dual core or multicore cpus, the only one which makes me cracy is that this game stucks with this good hardware. my old one shich got a 3500 64 bit single core and a radeon 9800 pro down not got so many problems that my new one. so i think there must be something els. like the driver or chipset driver or anything like that. if also written that problem in german if someone of you can speak german ---> http://www.alb-power.de/modules.php?op=modload&name=eBoard&file=viewthread&tid=160 This Problem is making my crazy !!! i got a fat Hotas at home with a customized chair for my hotas thrust controle and my f. game lags. espezially in multiplayer game ! there i got now a big lag which is not possible to handle. even with a 16 mbit connection. an other question !!!! how many Frames per second do you have in the game at a res of 1600x1200 with maximum details an gfx.
hotray Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 you'd better ask at the german LockOn Forum http://www.lockonforum.de dort werden sie geholfen.;) blibet suber! ray Swiss Jet Team Movie 2021
Guest EVIL-SCOTSMAN Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 last bit of help i give out on these forums or post for that matter. you probably need to dset affinity as your cpu's are clashing with the game ctrl+alt+del process tab, lockon.exe then right click and set affinity to cpu0 or cpu 1, not both. or get procaff and add it to the game shortcut. it lags with me as well when running both cpu's especially multiplayer, single = ok, multiplayer = shit.... set affinity is the main thing, google it if you dunno wtf am on about... laterzzz

G3 Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 is the 2gig ram upgrade worth it in an agp system. sounds like good advise from experience. i must have missed something here, the evil one is leaving? a question for cobra360 ????? or others with similar pc specs.... due to the fact my current system is similar in spec to yours, you mentioned the upgrade to 2 gig was worth it, can you expand on how it improved things for you as i am deciding wether or not to bother going to 2gig or waiting to build a new pci-e setup. all @ stock settings: a64 3400 754 1gig corsair xlpro 2.2.2.5 6800 ultra please advise.
NEODARK Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 for LockOn you really need a faster CPU, not GPU (that 6800ultra is good enough, anything higher wont make much of a difference)
