Avio Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Been flying the Ka-50 more than the Huey and loving it. However, unlike the Huey, the Ka doesn't do troops pickup or evac, etc. The Ka is an attack helo, and it's nice to play Search & Destroy missions. But I wonder what are the more realistic and fun ways of flying the Ka. Not a lot of time for long, complex missions. So usually I create mini adhoc missions like placing some moving tanks and AAA randomly moving across towns. It's fun and challenging trying to take down these from a stand-off distance. There was once when my first Vikhr missed a tank, and it promptly moved away and hid behind a building. But about one third of it was exposed at the corner of the building, and I painted a laser spot on the exposed part and sent a second Vikhr that managed to hit it !!! That was fun, but I would like to know anyone has got any other interesting and realistic mission ideas for the Ka.
AegisFX Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 I've done this with the A-10C and the f-15c in different ways. Make a convoy of vehicles: Consider a MBT or APC in the front, AAA toward rear, and a few soft targets in the middle. Trucks, school buses, limo, whatever. Give the convoy a route, and have baddies come after it. You assist the convoy in making it to a safe zone for a successful mission. You could probably make something similar with you hunting a convoy before they cross a bridge/border etc. Expand either version of convoy to end at an airport, and spawn a cargo or transport plane. Once the convoy arrives, the plane becomes the target. Destroy it before it finishes taking off. Exorcet Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 The Ka-50 is one of my "for fun" modules. I'm not trying to actively master it, but I still try to use it realistically. I don't have many missions, but my two favorite, that are in continual development, are a supply route attack mission and an airbase clean up mission. The supply mission involves taking off and crossing into Georgia and then performing a search and destroy on random convoys traversing a main road. There are AAA mixed in with the convoys. The ultimate form of this mission would involve AI units guided by triggers that would move to intercept you if you stayed in one place for too long, but I've not got around to adding this. The airbase mission sends you in after an airstrike to clear out everything that remains at Senaki. I basically made this mission after reading about the S-8 rockets in the manual (whichever rocket was made to penetrate aircraft hangers). At the moment, there are no enemies so it's just me blowing up buildings, but I find it fun anyway. arkroyale048 Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 I don't know about the rest of you; me ? I seem to enjoy the hunt more nowadays than blowing stuff up. I tend to join servers (or make missions) in which the threats (mostly SAM launchers) do not appear on the ABRIS (yep, no blue circles). The enemy threats also tend to not be in the way points themselves. Nowadays I enjoy doing recon work than blowing things up. There's a certain thrill of not knowing what's beyond a hill and making sure that you don't blunder into an unknown enemy position. By the end of the mission I'd usually have an ABRIS full of markers on enemy positions without firing a single shot. By the time I RTB to refuel... I usually get too lazy to go after it. So I relay them to any Shark or Hog drivers willing to go after them and then disconnect. Irregular streamer: http://www.twitch.tv/arkroyale048/profile
Avio Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 Agree that recon / search hunting work can be a load of satisfaction. Would be nice to be able to insert elements randomly into a specific map area. Less scripted and predictable that way = more surprises and fun. Would love to know how to create such randomness.
