I am getting rid of freetrack since I can't get it to work in DCS 1.2.10 and going to facetracknoir is there anything besides uninstalling the freetrack software I need to delete in DCS so it doesn't interfear with facetracknoir?

Posted

I recently downloaded the most current version of DCS and I can confirm that freetrack works with it running Windows 7 pro. I can't remember what was involved but it had to do with dropping some updated files into a few of the folders. I found the solution somewhere online. Sorry I cant be of much more help.

FreeTrack is still working with DCS, no problem here, but switching to FTNoIR is a right decision.

You don't need to do anything on DCS side. These softwares use same dll file in bin folder. Just uninstall one and install another. But if I were you I wouldn't uninstall FreeTrack. Because if there's a problem with headtracker.dll installation or something, FTNoIR may not work either.

By the way, I use FTNoIT with 3-LED cap, didn't like performance with face tracking...

Well then you already made a clip or cap solution. I would suggest use Point Tracker(version 1.1) as tracker in facetracknoir. I am using it and it is really stable i am getting very good results with that. Very close to TrackIR if you have PSeye.

I am not using facetrackingapi tracker as it is not that much responsive and you need better lighting for your face tracking.

I hope you will like facetracknoir with Point Tracker.

NOTE: Point tracker is same as freetrack. Please use point tracker version 1.1. As 1.0 is buggy just google it and you find 1.1 dll. Just through it in root of facetracknoir and you will see 1.1 point tracker in tracker dropdown list.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that, but I couldn't find a good search result. Is it easy to provide a link for that?

Thanks so much.

One could also consider opentrack which is more ore less the successor of FTNoIR

FTNoIR have rich features. More than one Tracker more than one protocols. You can use 2 different trackers for better result. You can also use network based tracker. It means Tracker is running on another PC.

Thanks so much.

There are the links

Download FaceTrackNoIR FTNoIR V170

Download PointTracker version 1.1

See the Manual, Configuration and features here

Follow these steps

  1. Download FTNoIR v170, Install it
  2. Download PointTracker 1.1 from above link
  3. Extract PointTracker v1.1 zip and put PointTracker Dll to the root of FaceTrackNoIR(FTNoIr)
  4. Run FTNoIR
  5. You will see 2 PointTrackers(V1.0 and V1.1) in the list of trackers Select point tracker with version 1.1. You can delete PointTracker V1.0 dll. If you don't want it
  6. Now follow the Point tracker info page. Which give you all the necessory steps to setup PointTracker

NOTE: The code of the PointTracker is same as the FreeTrack 2.0 but it is modified with some new features and it is much better

Let me know if you have still issues

This is also true for opentrack. As I said, opentrack is the successor of FTNoIR, same developer...

Just check their github page: https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack

Update: I just checked the new release candidate, there you can at the moment only use one sensor...

I don't see more options in 1.1 I see less (the option chose camera angle for example is gone). As fo results... I still struggle to make FTNoIR and Opentrack to work close to Freetrack 2.2 and still fail.

I like Opentrack stability and curve editing but the actual 6DoF function is for me close to garbage. With Freetrack 2.2 I can move in all directions, I can turn in all directions without any overlapping (Freetrack doesn't confuse turn with move)... in OT and FTNoIR... very poor results and unplayable.

I want to move to OT or FTNoIR because using a PS3Eye camera in Freetrack 2.2 means to press "Stream" button before any launch of Freetrack tracking (once a day basically) and the stability when standing still (and pressing buttons in cockpit) is a bit lower than what I see in OT.

But for now... results with OT and FTNoIR are poor.

Do you have any recommendations for tweaking so translations will not be influenced by rotations and viceversa?

After i read about OpentTrack I downloaded latest version and tried it. I tried a lot of time to make it use-able but failed. Yaw and Pitch is working nicely but translation is nightmare. When I compare FTNoIR with OT i learn the following things.

  1. OT using Accesla mk 4 which is more responsive but not stable when it comes to translation.
  2. I tried different settings in OT accesla mk 4, changed rotation and translation settings but not found any settings of my choice
  3. One of the issue in OT Open track 1.1 is pitching down axis which is not working properly for me
  4. OT OpentTrack 1.1 poor calibration. May be i miss some thing. FTNoIR is better
  5. I learnt new thing, Model dimensions are very very important. You must properly set model dimensions
  6. OT curve editor is better than FTNoIR as it give you symetry option. In FTNoIR only Pitch axis has separated upper and lower axis.
  7. OT give you option to assign axises to of your choice.
  8. FTNoIR accela mk 2 is way more stable you can increase responsiveness in accela filter editor

There are things that are of personal interest. Well right now i am using FTNoIR + OpenTrack 1.1 + Accela Mk 2 which works for the way i wanted, but i will keep an eye on the upcoming OT version and will try it.

I would like some one using OT give us all screen shots of their settings. I mean all of the settings that includes OpentTrack 1.1, Model dimensions, Accela filter etc. An image of actual model would be very nice.
