Sooo I am not quite sure if this is the right place to post this or if this is actually a thing... but as I was flying on the 104th's Op.Leopard9 ( or whicever is with Reds spawning on Vaziani ) and there was something with wrong with the WHOT view on the TGP.

Season on the mission is winter and the temp is -1 degrees. Going towards the TA and I switch on my TGP in WHOT mode and from I can figure the whole city was "on fire"

Couldn't see jack shit in any of the FLIR modes so I had to use CCD. If I have to I can try to dig out the track

P.S: I do not use any terrain mods. The closest thing to it is Mustang's shaders mod

Not sure about this system but with thermal sights on the TOW missle systems it was much easier to pick out targets in cold conditions than in hot weather. Man made objects different quite alot in temperature from the natural ones. Trees and grass don't retain the heat like concrete or metals so the contrast was much higher in these type conditions.

Well you are basiclly basiclly aggreeing with me on this one, eh ? As you can see the building and the terrain where all white (which means hot) so yeah....

IIRC then there isn't a correct FLIR mode moddeled in DCS, unfortunately :-(

It's just a grey scale overlay of the original images. Too bad though.

It help a little bit with trying to adjust Gain and Level

Cheers

Hans

I don't think it's just an overlay, there is a IR channel in game, although it's kinda static.

It isn't very realistic - you can use it in every condition while for example, it is a known fact that this kind of sensor becomes nearly useless at certain times of the day (dawn and sunset basically - thermal exchanges between earth and atmosphere make flir displays a huge mess)

The impossible they do at once, miracles just take a little longer.

True, it isn't perfect, but within it's limitations, it is not unworkable.

I'm sure if you ask ED nicely enough, they might just give it some attention down the line, but I'd hardly describe it as a bug at this stage, especially as we're about to see a big graphics upgrade in the coming months.

Who knows what may be possible in the future under Edge?

Hmm... isn't hot black in this FLIR mode? Look at the chimney smoke from the factory on the screenshot.
