Communicating with your flight

I created a .miz file with three A-10c flying formation and me being the fourth to practice formation flying. In the mission editor I have them set there UHF am radio to 251 MHZ first thing then to fly close formation. I can't communicate with them at all and they don't fly close formation but a wide wedge. At the waypoints they all make their turns however they want but do form up again in the wide wedge. Why won't they follow my instructions in the Mission editor? Can someone tell me what I might be doing wrong?

Are you placing them first? If so, they are not your flight, but a separate AI flight. Go back into editor and place your plane first. Then add 3 units by tweaking the box that comes after "of".

What you want is to have you, the player or client, as 1 of 4. The AI units will be 2, 3, and 4.

Once in the game and flying, you can contact them via radio. A as flight lead, they will fly off of your wing. Not exactly what you want, but it can help you fly as a good lead. I.E. not leaving the team behind.

Otherwise, your best bet is to place one friendly unit and fly on its wing. You won't be able to communicate, but can practice controlling your closure and spacing.

Barring these options, consider joining an acrobatic server and asking any players there for a formation flight.

As far as wanting to be in a flight of AI units and not being lead, it's currently impossible. I myself posted a thread requesting that feature within the wishlist section.

Waiting for something to finish at work, so I haven't got the ME here, but try setting 1 plane to fly the lead as a separate flight that follows yor waypoints, then in the ME set another 2 flights each has it's inflight task set to follow (escort), & then you can set the displacement for each plane in x,y & z from your first lead plane, then put your own plane in & zoom in on the ME to set everyone at the right distance for the mission start.

You can't give them instructions vis the comms menu in the normal way, but you can use triggers to get them to follow some instructions and add those to the F-10 Menu.

Cheers.

Weta43 that is pretty much what I have done. As of last night after some tweaking I was able to get them to fly as I intended throughout the whole flight. This works out fine as I am free to fly around the formation and practice formation flying anywhere I like. However there are also two other A10s flying ahead of us which followed all the waypoints except did not land in the end, they just kept flying out into the ocean never to be heard from again. Weird Thanks for your reply.

Don't know if this is still possible (and I'm not home to check), you could command your flight to "go to waypoint". If that's still the case, you could set up your flight and use the command to send then here and there at will.
