timone1002 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Hello, I'm about to get a new gaming PC and I want to max its potential, I was wondering what the best mods are for dcs world in terms of gameplay, texture packs and other mods?
Archer7 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 In case you haven't heard: DCS 2.0 will come out November/December along with 5 or so new modules (Bf-109 K-4, Hawk, L-39C, L-39ZA, MiG-15bis) and about 2 new maps (Nevada Test and Training Range, Straits of Hormuz) so this winter is destined to be the time to play DCS. I'd say wait until the inevitable winter sale, stock up on as much as you can and enjoy the vanilla game until you mod it. Modding now is sort of meaningless since the new graphics update is only several weeks away. Also note that you should definitely have a solid HOTAS (cheapest: Saitek Cyborg F.L.Y. 5, most expensive: Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS) and pedals and head-tracking is also nice to have when playing DCS. Ideally you should have about $1000 of equipment. I mentioned the F.L.Y. 5 because it is both a joystick, with a dual throttle and has twist that can be used instead of pedals so it admirably gets you basically everything you really need at the cheapest cost available. As for computers building your own is the best an i5>i7, 8GB memory suffices, the strongest graphics card are exponentially more expensive and a silent computer beats a strong computer all days of the week when you’re only slow-surfing internet. Also if you abandon your dreams of overclocking (wasteful in my experience) you can save a lot of money on buying a cheap-ass motherboard, minimal or no cooling and in either case 400-500W is enough for a single card computer. Corsairs are bosses in mostly everything they do, ASUS/MSI both have the best motherboards and graphics cards and Western Digital/Samsung own HDD/SSDs. I saw you’re asking around in another thread.

AtaliaA1 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Hello, I'm about to get a new gaming PC and I want to max its potential, I was wondering what the best mods are for dcs world in terms of gameplay, texture packs and other mods? Texture Packs are no longer needed with DSR from Nvidia. Running the Sim. at 2560X1440 with Cold or Warm color setting is "Outstanding"!!! Take a look at Nvidias website for the info. on DSR. Most have sung its praises here. This was a Boutique Builder iBuypower rig. Until I got the tinker bug again i7 920 @3.6Mhz 12Gig Corsair XMS3 ram 1600 Nvidia 760 SLi w/4Gig DDR5 Ram Intel 310 SSD HDD 160 Gb + Western Digital 4Terabyte HDD Creative SB X-Fi HD Audio Logitech X-530 5.1 Surround Speaker System Dual Acer 32"Monitors. AtaliaA1 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 probably just wait for DCS World 2, that comes out between now and the end of the year, so not long :) It will look better than any mod I think. That and DSR. from Nvidia........along with EDGE......Very good time to be a DCS Flight Sim. Junky. Can't wait to see the results of all of them together. This was a Boutique Builder iBuypower rig. Correct me if I'm wrong but DSR has absolutely nothing with texture quality to do... it's effectively supersampling, basically anti-aliasing. Oh and this NVG mod may be the one mod that really makes me mouth water: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1652771#post1652771 Edited November 7, 2014 by Archer7
