Art-J Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 After the infamous "additive fuel weight" bug has been fixed for good, I decided yesterday to finally check the 3-hour "Round the map" mission included in the mod package. Quite an enjoyable trip I must say... at least until 2 hours 20 minutes in, when I ran out of juice 50 km before second refueling stop at Anapa - didn't crash actually, barely landed at Krymsk just to notice everybody there took a day off and there was no ground crew to fill my plane up. Description of my frustration and bad vocabulary which followed is not necessary here, but you get the picture . The question of why my plane got empty even though I was supposed to be 100% full (internal and 2 drop tanks) after first stop led to some testing today. It seems that if you land with empty wing/ventral drop tanks still attached and order ground crew to fill you up, they will happily do so, but only for internal tanks, while leaving out external ones as if these were not there. If you want them full as well, you have to either drop them, or remove them via armament menu just to mount them again a second later . Kinda silly, if you ask me, but since I don't know if it applies to all airplanes in DCS world, or just the MiG-21, I won't put this note in "bugs" section, but leave it here as a warning for any novice -21 flier who's thinking about long flights with refueling, while maintaining peace-time procedures (ie. NOT dropping empty tanks on people's heads :D). i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
Justin Case Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Yep, the "450 Liter" light saved me once from this. Now I always remove and then add new tanks when rearming. http://www.masterarms.se A Swedish Combat Flight Simulator Community.
golani79 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Good to know - thanks for the advice! >> DCS liveries by golani79 <<
Skulleader Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Now I always remove and then add new tanks when rearming. The same method for me and work fine. Art-J Posted November 24, 2014 Author Posted November 24, 2014 Flew the mission again today. Successfully this time, yay! I've made two observations though: a) AI escort pilots are blithering idiots - 5 planes lost and one damaged when every next pair was trying to take formation place of the previous one. Some pilots evaded each other, the others did not :D. Not a bad "combat" loss ratio for a peacetime "tourist" mission ;). I guess it depends on AI level of every particular plane. Obviously the AI is not Leatherneck's job, so I don't complain, however... b) ... installing a new pair of underwing tanks increases the fuel amount indeed, but probably not enough. Something is glitched here. I'll jump to bugs/problems section with more details. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
