Hello guys!

I'm really desperated getting these three components to work together.

I hope you guys can help me.

I already read this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98665

And I already followed those instructions: http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=2416

And I still wasn't able to get things running well.

At first I opened my PS3 Eye and took out the IR filter. Then I put on 2 layers of negative film in it (I also tried only 1 layer and 3 layers as well).

I installed the Code Laboratories drivers for the PS3 Eye. Next step was installing FreeTrack (not starting it) and extracting the patch files into the FreeTrack folder.

I started FreeTrack as admin. Clicked on "Stream" and chose "640 x 480 px (32 bits) @ 75.000 FPS" and hit "Start". All I got was a black screen with no IR lights visible.

After trying for hours I somehow managed to get one big red blob (all 3 IR lights merged).

CL-Eye Test works only once most of the time. Second time I only receive a black screen.

1. What am I doing wrong?

2. How can I focus the camera?

3. How can I keep a stable picture all the time?

Any help is highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

FIrst things first Viking. :)

My recomendation is to use either opentrack or facetracknoir with PT plugin. U will get better results. I strongly recomend opentrack.

But if u really want to use freetrack..there is a bug.

First unzip cleye.rar and drop that config file right in to freetrack folder.

After that when u run freetrack first go to "STREAM" and simply click apply.

THen u are good to go.

Unfortunately u have to do the stream part each time u want to run freetrack with ps3 eye.

Good luck.

Also please post your results, how is it working with track clip pro.

Okay, thank you guys. FreeTrack kinda works now, but it seems to be resetting after every new start of the application.

@trooph: I would like to use OpenTrack if it's better working and still get updates. I already download it but don't really see what to do, to adjust it properly. Are there any instructions?

I managed to set Tracker to PointTracker 1.1, Protocol to freetrack 2.0 Enhanced and Filter to Accela. I even figured out how to get my three leds to be correctly appear. But how do I adjust the virtual head moving properly?

@Poneybirds: For some odd reasons it seemed to help, to remove the film. I'm not really sure how I managed to make it work.

Edit: I even managed to configure it properly by myself. If there any further informations, I still would like to read them. Thanks!

Is anybody aware of a webcam that natively supports IR imaging with the option to filter out the visible spectrum?

My own experience and what I read on forums is that 90% goes wrong messing with a webcam as it is natively designed to do exactly the opposite of what we as simmers would want it to do.

Good to read that u managed to run opentrack :) Its a really good piece of software.

@Jaypee

Actually there is not many webcams that can do that and run 60fps (which is a MUST for smooth headtracking). Or atleast i dont know about any of them :)

Im using PS3 eye with great sucess. I had to use fine polishing paper to get my cam back to full focus but it was worth it. Also ps3 eye costs around 10 euros so its not big amount of cash :)

Where do you get a PS3 cam for 10 bucks then? And how can you be sure it's the version/revision that allows for easy removal of the lens?

Used ones from ebay. I got mine in Germany for €7.50 incl. shipping.

You can't be sure, but you can polish the IR layer off the filter, even on the new (worse) ones.

Too bad I can't order from Amazon. There is no Dutch Amazon so shipping costs will be ridiculous.
