With the new update I noticed a new indicator appearing on the hud.faxrzw5.jpg

the Su 33 and MiG 29's received this as well.

I presume it is used for landing because it dissapears when Enroute mode is selected, but how do you read it?

According to the translated Su-27SK Manuel (available on the net), it should be : "the scale of angle of attack with the limiting values".

It's used for both Take Of and Landing (LNDG mode).

It's also there in Pilotage mode as well--which is very handy. You don't have to keep glancing down at the AoA indicator when making a VFR landing. To the OP, the upper tick mark is where you start falling out of the sky.

So as long as the crosshair/aircraft datum is within the 2 inner notches I'm safe?

And the outer notch looks like it represents the horizon as it is level with the pitch angle horizon line

If I read it correct, this is comparable in function to the F-16/FA-18 HUD AoA bracket?

Pretty much.

Don't know about the F-16/FA-18 brackets but in the Flanker, keep AoA within those limits. :)

I noticed the speed triangle/carrot, doesn't indicate increasing speed or decreasing speed, but the position of your throttle.

You can put your nose down, put throttle to idle, and it will indicate you loosing speed even though your gaining it.

Is this realistic?

Tried it in level flight with full mil and when I lowered gear and used airbrakes the caret indicated I was decellerating, yet when I do it in a dive it indicates I'm decellerating while gaining speed.

Just like you said
