Honest989 Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I'm playing the demo mission with the SU-25 and on board are 2 unguided cluster bombs, but my problem is I can't figure out how to drop them properly. I've read the manual for it and as it suggests I: press 7 select bombs (or the backwards b thing in russian) turn on the laser guide At this point, a target reticule shows up on the bottom of the HUD, half of it is missing because the POI is out of visual sight. Now the only way I can get the things to release is to basically fly right over them and then dive and drop the bomb when the reticule climbs up and i can see all of it in the hud, but at which point i typically have a load of AA fire in my face.. Is there no way someone could tell me the proper use of the bomb in the vanilla SU-25 please? It's doing my head in.
SUBS17 Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 In the demo don't fly toward the convoy, get your wingman to take out the SAMs/AAA. If you watch the track file for the SU25 mission you'll see how to win the mission. To drop bombs in the 25 do as you mentioned hit 7 then on the ingress switch on the laser range finder and go into a shallow dive. The CCIP pipper should go into view as you desend. When it appears level off and use joystick button 1 to release the bombs.(trigger) If you want to take out the SAMs/AAA then you have to use the laser guided missiles. To do this hit F7 and cycle through the targets until you find the AAA/SAM units. Work out which number in the convoy the SAM is then hit F5 to find the convoy in relation to your aircraft. Roll in and cycle A/G until the lights for the laser guided missiles pylons light up(left bottom panel). Switch on the laser and a cross will appear, slew it onto the target and push TAB to lock. Fire using joystick button 1(trigger), adjust the cross onto the target if it moves left or right and once its hit break turn and pop flares. The secret to this mission is hitting the MRLS:cool: . Honest989 Posted April 4, 2006 Author Posted April 4, 2006 the other secret is figuring out how the hell to land the SU-25. By the time I approach the runway the damn thing is still doing close to 250-300 knots. Tis a fast bugger I tell thee. Ahh well.. at least the crash landings are amusing to play with.. is there anyway to get the pilot to 'exit' the plane when landed rather than: "Tower, this is one" "go ahead one" "I had a pretty good run there" " yeah you did... now you're parked, just eject and we'll all go for a pint. I'm sure someone will repair your now rocket-burned cockpit for your next mission"
SUBS17 Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 The Russians use metric, it ain't Knots its Km/h:D , alot slower than you think. This was my first landing on the FC demo:cool: . [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
Honest989 Posted April 4, 2006 Author Posted April 4, 2006 erm i forgot about the breaking 'chutes. That could be why i never seem to stop :icon_toil
Crusty Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 How high are you on the run in?, sounds like you may be trying too low, You need like 2000 metres and highish speed or else you are gonna end up diving very steeply to get your pipper in the hud fov oo err...missus:animals_bunny: ** Anti-Pastie**
mjolner Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Yes Crusty is right, absolutely. I prefer 550km/h + and between 2500 and 3000 meters when delivering iron with the frog. Even faster helps you avoid AA and even SAMs just punch flares and pray. This is similar to to RL Frog tactics used in the Afghan conflict, Frogs didnt hang around after dropping.Get in fast and get out real fast. Keep in mind that with high speed you will experience high vibration so your accuracy may be compromised, practice makes perfect.
VapoR Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Another way to drop the cluster bombs is CCRP. Basically you do the same as above, but while the pipper is still stuck at the bottom of the gunsight (docked) just fly the center dot over the target. Now press and HOLD the fire button. Keep lined up left/right on the target but you can now let the target slip under your view. A few seconds before release, a tone will sound--keep holding the fire button until the tone stops and you hear the clunk when the bombs release. Now you can let go of the trigger and begin evasive maneuvers. Edit: this is all easier if you zoom in all the way to the HUD, or better yet hit ctrl-numpad0 then numpad5 for a zoomed-in snapview of the HUD.
