Hi there guys,

I currently have the following RAM installed in the PC:

Corsair Dominator 2 x 2 GB DDR2 Dual Channel @ 1066MHz (PC2-8500) RAM Memory

And one friend gave me the following:

Black Dragon 4 x 2 GB DDR2 DC PC2 6400 800Mhz CL 5-5-5-15

My question is, should I switch the Corsairs by the Black Dragons?

Thank you for your kind help.

Regards.

I would, if the motherboard supports it. It's worth a try anyway.

I had problems with 6GB after losing a memory module. With my current 16GB, I'm seeing around 9GB used with Helios, TIR, TeamSpeak2 and DCS running. That's in multiplayer at the VA server.

However, Win7 likes to use memory if there's some to spare (and that's good!), so the numbers might be lower with less memory installed. I was flying happily with 8GB for quite a while.

Dear Shilka. I hate you so very very much. Love, Rex

IIRC I've read around the forums that lower RAM timings work very well with DCS.

To help you in finding an answer to your question, I suppose the easiest thing to do is:

Run DCS with current Ram config. Note Fps.

switch Ram modules and try again. Note Fps.

As for the results you should expect I have no clue, but it should be easy enough to test that out if you have 20~ or so minutes to spare. ( posting the results can always be interesting aswell. )

Easy as 1.2.3 :) good luck!

I'll be running 16GB of Corsair Dominator series as soon as my new MOBO comes in Tuesday to replace what we found out was a defect Rampage V board. Would NOT recognize any memory off to the left of the pot (CPU) which includes the BIOS.

With the new EDGE around the corner I figure it will just push things a little bit more hardware wise too, so be ready. Was going to keep the memory cooling fans but now am going to leave them off. With the huge built in heat sinks they have plus this case has tons of room for adequate air movement I'll be fine. Added benefit is that my liquid cooling lines from my H110 get really close to the mounted memory fans on top anyways, leaving them off cures this. Indefinately would not have less than 16GB on the MOBO though - just my preference.
