nervousenergy Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 I'm not sufficiently qualified about engine sounds to even hazard a guess, but after Kurfurst's post I must break out my FAVORITE WWII picture: PC - 3900X - Asus Crosshair Hero VIII - NZXT Kraken 63 - 32 GB RAM - 2080ti - SB X-Fi Titanium PCIe - Alienware UW - Windows 10 Sim hardware - Warthog throttle - VKB Gunfighter III - CH Quadrant - Slaw Device Pedals - Obutto R3volution pit - HP Reverb G2 - 2X AuraSound shakers

ED Team Yo-Yo Posted December 12, 2014 Author ED Team Posted December 12, 2014 Ok, but a little bit later, possibly tomorrow. Maybe Friday evening encourages somebody to join the game... Joao611 Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 Don't know about 1 or 2, but the 3rd sounds like a P51 to me (I think I heard its whistles?).
Solty Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 (edited) Don't know about 1 or 2, but the 3rd sounds like a P51 to me (I think I heard its whistles?). Not even close :P YoYo sound was more of a whistle, while Mustang has that distinct whine when pulling Gs. The thing that DCS has done amazingly well, and I can't even describe my gratitude for that :) Also Merlin engine is more of a Wzzwzwzz while the sound was more of a brbrbrbrrr... if you know what I mean. ED Team Yo-Yo Posted December 14, 2014 Author ED Team Posted December 14, 2014 Ok, it's time to show the cards: 1. Corsair (but P-47, i think, is the valuable answer because of similar engine, and the power rating is insufficient to notice different exhaust systems) 2 Spits - Griffon then Merlin (Bravo bongodriver!) 3. Sea Fury I guess Bongodriver is our winner (if I did not mention somebody, please raise your hand :). THe interesting result is that there is a big dispersion in engine sound perception... please make your conclusions. :) Ніщо так сильно не ранить мозок, як уламки скла від розбитих рожевих окулярів There is nothing so hurtful for the brain as splinters of broken rose-coloured spectacles. Thumper1606688436 Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 I see a lot of people recognising the sound of the more famous aircraft - Spitfire! Just like they would with the ME-109 :P

But 3 out of 4 is not too bad either i guess... My conclusion stay same as before. "casual simmers" do not notice or care as long as engine sounds like aeroplane engine. For us, who absolutely love how those old v-12 or radial engines sounds, we are not pleased so easily...:) Edited December 15, 2014 by DB 605 CPU: Intel Core i7-2600k @3.40GHz | Motherboard: Asus P8P67-M | Memory: Kingston 8GB DDR3 | OS W10 | GPU: Sapphire R9 290x 8GBDDR5 | Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 24" | Devices: Oculus Rift, MS FFB 2 joystick, Saitek X 52 Pro throttle, Saitek Pro pedals, Gametrix Jetseat [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
