nscode Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 UK PLANES: Electric Lightning: One of the fastest interceptors ever made Interesting thing i've heard... during the entire Concord's service life, Royal Airforce never had a plane that could keep up with it :D Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
Cobra360 Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I think he ment one of the fastest climbing interceptors. A Lightning even out climbed some of the F-15 Streak Eagle's best times. And yes the P-42, stripped down Su-27 beat those times completly.

Guest IguanaKing Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Oh don't worry about that, its interesting to talk about the SR71. Tremendous advances were made in such a short timeframe. I mean sixty years previous, the main mode of transport was the horse and cart, who would have dreamed that there would be a mach 3 jet in the very near future. WWI & WWII advanced the human race by an estimated 200 years, meaning without their happening, the horse and cart would have been around a lot longer, shudder the thought! Mizzy :) Yup...a struggle for survival as a nation has a tendancy to do that. The Cold War also advanced world technology by huge leaps and bounds.
