I have recently encountered a bug where targets illuminated by my radar will show on the VSI, but not on the HUD.

here is one instance:

in this one you can see i am actually tracking the contact with TWS, but it still does not display on HUD: Screen_150103_151742.jpg

I've noticed the same problem. Also the rwr seems to have some issues with incoming missiles, i didn't get any warning and just keeps blowing up. And yes, i am aware of the bank angle limitations. The combination makes for some quite interesting dogfighting

Is it possible that these are contacts received via datalink, not from the radar? I thought such contacts don't show up on the hud (unless radar sees them too)?

nope. note the closed triangle of the enemy. datalink targets are open triangles (like a < sign). Also, in the first image, I was flying on a server with no AWACS or EWR support (104th)

Is it possible that computer keeps last known position displayed on HDD for some seconds after target stops reflecting enough energy back? And you just pick it up again later when it, say, comes out of a notch for example?

It isnt that either, it happens when you detect new targets, it's like the TAD has a bigger vertical scan radius than the HUD does, since targets seldom appear once you move the radar and notch up or down.

nope. head on aspect to both targets in both instances, neither was flaking or cold at any point in the engagement.

Negative on TAD outranging HUD as well, you can see in the second image where have the target locked on TWS that his range is well within the range limit of the HUD display.
