Recovering Missions

So in short I was creating a rather complex mission. Lots of triggers and options. etc.

After a large amount of work I went to save and playtest what I had done. However the save function didn't want to work. So I tried Save as and made a new file to save it to. It seemed to work until I got out of ME and back in only to find the the save as version I made was wiped (the map was void of any objects that I had added) so I moved to the old version expecting it to be like the last time I had saved the mission before this issue......NOPE the map was clear as well.

 

So hoping that I can salvage my mission. Is there a way to recover a broken mission? Does DCS create temporary backup files of missions that I can recover?

First, save another copy of the mission with a different name of revision indicator.

 

Try opening up the new mission .miz file and deleting everything in it except the 'mission' file. Then close/save the .miz file. Then open that in the ME -- hope that helps...

 

 

I will **often** save my mission using Save As and incrementing a revision indicator to avoid what happened to you. I knock on wood that I don't get ME crashes, but I still do this Save As a lot.

 

I use a revision indicator in the mission names that gives the DCS version as well as a revision indication, like this:

'WC's The Highway 1210v1a.miz'

'WC's The Highway 1210v1b.miz'

.

.

'WC's The Highway 1210v2g.miz', and so on.

 

The next time I Save As I'll bump the 'v2g' to 'v2h', etc.

 

When a new update comes out, like v1.2.11 I will save it like:

'WC's The Highway 1211v2g.miz'

 

I put all the older versions into a History folder so I can go back to a previous version if necessary.

Thanks Wrecking Crew, Ill keep that in mind for the future. However I think my mission is gone, but no matter. I can just remake it, apart from lots of triggers it wasn't a hard one to make.

But I will keep in mind to make multiple copies.

Building on what Wrecking Crew said, we store our mission versions in a repo like SVN or GIT.

 

That way we can go back to any saved version and the version control is managed by the repo.

That same shit happened to me two days ago. saved as then regular saves for 8 hours of editing/ adding stuff. Go to test it and nothing everything was erased. Checked the saved file and it was there go to open it and nothing nothing on the map like i never touched it. still pissed off about it.
