hello everyone :-)

I have a really strange problem with this sim:

my fps is ridiculously low (around 7-8). What makes it strange are my specs;

amd fx8350 eight core overclocked cpu

ati hd7990 (2 hd7970's on one pcb)

another ati hd7970 [total of 3 7970 gpu on a single rig]

2 ssd's in raid0 configuration

16 gb ram

all updated windows 8.1 and the latest amd catalyst drivers

2 screens: 1 1920x1080 monitor as main and 1 a small 17' inch monitor.

soo.... at maximum, I can get around 20 fps or less, BUT only if I use the COMBINED screens as 3200x1080.

the thing is, that if I disable the small screen and use 1920x1080 settings, the fps drops drastically (and they are not high to begin with).

I tried changing the graphic options to very low, mid range or very high, only making it 1-2 frames faster or slower respectively.

I checked the crossfire option on and off in the catalyst menu, it didn't made any difference.

I know my amd cpu is somewhat limited, but come on!!! the rig is quite high-end right?!?!

and why is enlarging the number of pixels drawn produces a significant increase of fps???

any help would be greatly appreciated :-)))

Try disabling all GPU except 7970. I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that in it's current form DCS can't handle multi-GPU. Even the GPU that are multi GPU on 1 board.

That is true.

I have a i7 920 no overclock, with a Nvidia 960 and I have no problems with FPs. Never have.

U have 2 items that aren't recommended by those who use DCs. The AMD CPU and the AMD GPU. All the cores do nothing for DCs as it is built on an elderly programming language and DX9 doesn't help with new tech.

Disabling Multi GPU usage and Graphics settings will get U better FPs in DX9. The PC U have is about an 8.5 in Tech. Ratings, in DX9 applications it is a 5.5 due to DX9s lack of an instruction set that would take advantage of the faster processor, and Multi GPUs.

But I'm aware of that (maybe I'm wrong), although DCS v2.0 comes out, my FPS problem will remain.

I know that because my VRAM is 1GB. I need to upgrade VRAM, If I can't I need a new GFX card with 2 or 4 GB RAM...

same here..but I decided to give 2.0 a try with my GTX 570...if things get worse I will have to upgrade most likely. BTW does the replacement of the Videocard require a new key, or is unregister/register enough?!

My Specs:

I don`t care..it is a Computer..a black one..

had strange FPS behavior too a couple of weeks ago. I bought a brand new PC (I7 4770) and after a week I got very low rates. I posted this on the forum as well.

Not 100% sure to say what actually caused these low rates, but the creative drivers (which I updated 5 days after the purchase) were the main reason as far as I can reconstruct now. As I said not 100% sure. But the problems started after the update. I mailed ED and they stated that the Creative drivers are the worst. They can influence DCS a lot. This suggestion came from one of the simmers who responsded to the thread. Maybe you can dig into this suggestion as well.

Fortunately I had an imagebackup and was able to put things back when I had super high fps (up to 120) in the first days after the purchase. No driver update from Creative anymore. I leave as it is. All works. I have a backup soundcard on the motherboard (Realtek) as well, so when creative is causing problems again I will skip the additional creative sound card X-Fi.

It's not your hardware.

My pc is very similar but I'm only running one 7970 and it's one of the old 925MHz models. The others here are onto something with crossfire, if the game doesn't support it you will have problems. Just turn it off in your driver.

I don't monitor fps because it runs as smooth as butter, with every acft module installed.

I'm in total agreement with the others about creative drivers too. I have an x-fi built in but went out and bought an asus card just to get away from those darn drivers.

I am absolutely flabbergasted by the X-Fi driver issues everyone states is an issue. I believed in that company from back in the early 90's.

I do remember after getting the 1.2.7 update that the music started earlier when loading the newer ver. I have the Beta and the 1.2.7 loaded (to avoid issues with updates) and the load times were drastically reduced along with the music starting faster . something for the devs. to look into I would think.
