An odd issue came up recently and half of my control settings rely on this working.

The pinky button on the stick (Button 6 in the controller properties) is not being detected in game. The Properties panel recognizes when I press it, the profiler (which I'm trying to wean from) recognizes it.

Ideally I'd like to have all the inputs for different aircraft programmed into the sim itself so I don't have to alt-tab to change control settings every time I use a different module. I also decided to assign the slider axis in the profiler to have two modes (one in which it opens and closes the speed breaks and the other to do nothing so I can use the axis in sim).

So what I'm trying to do is use the pinky button as a modifier which worked at first but now it doesn't.

I was having the same issue today.

I think some update or something may have reset it.

I went into the modifiers panel and it was not showing anything when I was clicking the pinky switch. I had forgot to choose saitek x52 pro in that list so that's why it wasn't working as a modifier. Simple mistake for me, I did not have the correct controller in the dropdown list on the modifier. One I selected x52 pro, and hit the pinky switch, I was able to set it as a modifier again.

I'm not sure why DCS enjoys removing my pinky switch as a modifier almost weekly though...

It still shows the button in the modifiers list, but nothing happens when I press the button.

Also the Mode switch does nothing.

If I remember correct, the Pinky and Clutch buttons are hardware modifiers for X52 by default.... it is a while since I had one.

You had to "assign" a Saitek Profile that set these to "normal" buttons, otherwise the Saitek drivers/software will capture the presses as internal modifiers and they don't show up in DCS. The control panel does show them, because it sits before the Saitek profiler and stuff.

I have a problem with my pinky too.

My pinky is working.

However i like to configure the stick so that i have to hold in the pinky when i

want to use a 2nd setup ( the modifier) of buttons.

My problem now is that when i press the pinky the stick toggels between

Normal state and Modifier state.

This is rather annoying as i do not have any indicators if the stick is in normal mode or in modifier mode.

I do really hate this toggel function and want to remove it so i hold down the pinky to enter modifier mode instead.

How can i do this???

PS. im not using the X52 software and i dont have any profiles set in it.

All my setup is done purly in DCS.

Either you have set the pinky in DCS under Modifiers to 'switches' rather than Modifier or you must create a Saitek profile that sets the pinky to normal 'button' mode.

Again, I do this from memory when I had my X52 (non pro) back then.

Somebody with a current X-52pro might chime in?

The first issue is due to saitek's software not sending out the X52 pinky switch as a DX button because it will use it as a modifier only in it's software if the modes are set. The modes are "set" by default and you need to delete all of the ones with the pinky switch. To do this, go into the saitek profiler, programming, click the X on all the modes with a pinky switch, delete them, find the pinky switch in modes 1-3 and make sure it is set to "fall-back". Once you do that, save it and make sure the profile is running in the task bar (should be colored icon if it's running instead of grey/black).

The second issue (modifer being a toggle) is caused by putting the pinky switch in the incorrect collom in DCS. It should be in the left, not the right collom for modifiers.

Make sure it's on the left (like in this image) and not the right. Also make sure to repeat that for general settings and all modules you plan to use it on. (the dropdown list in the top left)

Correct! You need(!) to use the profiler with a profile that sets the pinky and 'clutch' to 'fall back' (normal button send).

Without that, the pinky and clutch are used as modifiers 'inside' the X52 and not sent to DirectX.

Not a very bright design, sure.

Have a look at Officer25's post for details.
