Dappman Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 (edited) I don't have these indicators on my Su27. I was told they show targets speed and altitude. Edited February 6, 2015 by Dappman
Kuky Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 They show different things in different modes. Screenshot above shows NAV mode so no target info is there as there is no target in this mode. In NAV mode you get what speed and altitutde you need to be at for your next WP. Why don't you post screenshot that shows them not being there? Falcon_S Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 If you lock target in ECM you cant have that data because ECM hide that target and interfere your system Quote Немој ништа силом, узми већи чекић! Why don't you post screenshot that shows them not being there? Whoops. Took that picture at the wrong time. Here's another one with the target locked and missile fired, in STT mode (I think). It looks like it's tracking the targets speed and altitude. Is this standard on Su27? Because I never get that on mine. I can go into a game a take a screenshot with me flying the Su27 if you really want me to, but there's nothing there. Here's the full video.
Demongornot Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Apparently it only work on BVR mode, STT and with Radar (i have never get those informations with Electro Optical EO system only), i use it sometime for having the speed of someone i want to follow in formation flight, so yes this is standard i think. And as Kuky say, when you are on navigation mode, what is show is the desired altitude/speed for the selected waypoint ! Kuky Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 In EOS mode when targetis locked its speed and altitude is shown, but I think this is because radar is used also to give this info (even if you don't turn it on manually). In CAC modes like VS or Bore mode, this is not shown. If you really want us to show you why you don't see it you'll have to post a screenshot (help us help you) PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
Dappman Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 Ok I'll post a screenshot tomorrow. What is EOS?
Bourrinopathe Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 EOS stands for Electro-Optical System (or Sight). It's the russian IRST (ОЛС-27 (OLS-27) in the Su-27). In combat, the target's altitude and speed are only displayed in the BVR mode and not WVR (radar or/and EOS). I assume it's because the visual reference should provides enough information to engage the target. The ОЛС-27 laser range finder is effective to about 2800 m, but I have no idea how it would provide the target's speed and altitude farther away. Afaik the radar should remain silent to keep the passive tracking and avoid detection. We could run a test mission with a target (rear aspect) within the 100km EOS detection range and see if we have the alt + spd. I'm confused (and curious) now ;) /// ВКБ: GF Pro MkII+MCG Pro/GF MkII+SCG L/Black Mamba MkIII/Gladiator/T-Rudder MkII | X-55 Rhino throttle/Saitek Throttle Quadrant | OpenTrack+UTC /// ZULU +4 /// /// "THE T3ASE": i9 9900K | 64 GB DDR4 | RTX 2080ti OC | 2 TB NVMe SSDs, 1 TB SATA SSD, 12 TB HDDs | Gigabyte DESIGNARE mobo ///
Kuky Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 I think I know why you don't see target speed and altitude info... you must be using CAC (Close Air Combat) mode like VS (vertical Scan)? Dappman Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 I think I know why you don't see target speed and altitude info... you must be using CAC (Close Air Combat) mode like VS (vertical Scan)? No, I was in BVR mode with radar lock. This is really weird now because I just went on single player to try and take a screenshot of it, and it actually works now. I must have been doing something wrong...

This would be true IRL, where i can easily see a target as small as an F-16 at 2-3 miles with my eyes at their natual 180-FoV. Unfortunately, in DCS, I have trouble spotting SU-27s at ranges of 2-3 km, because even at maximum zoom, the engine draws them only 2-3 pixels wide....
