rrohde Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) Recently I've seen some interesting documentaries on the Su-27, and I noticed that a grown man can easily walk beneath the Su-27's wings. In DCS World, when parked on the ground, I cannot move my F2 external camera to be on eye-level with what the size of the real Su-27 suggests; it seems as if my external "camera man" is either much taller than a real human being would be -- or -- the 3D external models are not to scale and are much smaller than they should be. What is it? On a side note, is there any option to lower the F2 camera height to that of an average person so that my 'suspension of disbelief' is restored again? :) See images for comparison: Edited February 7, 2015 by rrohde PC: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | MSI Suprim GeForce 3090 TI | ASUS Prime X570-P | 128GB DDR4 3600 RAM | 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD | Win10 Pro 64bit Gear: HP Reverb G2 | JetPad FSE | VKB Gunfighter Pro Mk.III w/ MCG Ultimate VKBcontrollers.com
Exorcet Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 F2 is not a first person view. It's a free camera. There is a line of code preventing the camera from getting too close to, or under, the ground. You can disable it and that will give you more camera freedom. If you want something like a first person view, you can eject and then press F1 when your pilot is on the ground. rrohde Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 Thanks for the feedback, Exorcet. Do you happen to know how to disable the F2 camera boundaries? Exorcet Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Unfortunately no. If I did I would have posted how. I think it's in one of the lua files you can find in the DCS install location, but exactly where it is I don't know. rrohde Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) Thanks for the ejecting + F1 idea, Exorcet. Seems as if our Flanker is indeed correctly scaled (and I wrongly assumed that the F2 camera, while on the ground, would provide an eye-level first-person view). Good stuff! Devrim Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Use F11, free camera (can't remember, LShift+F11 or something like that). You can set your own position towards to the aircraft. GeorgeLKMT Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Turning off CameraTerrainRestriction in server.lua might be also handy for some nice ground shots. 1 ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■

rrohde Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 What were the documentaries ? Anyway, DCS shows exactly that; pilot under wings I put some screenshots into a Flickr Album First and foremost, this documentary comes to mind: There are quite a few interesting docus on YouTube; it also helps when you enter the "Cy-27" in the search there, since there are many videos that were uploaded by Russian users. Thanks for sharing those images, btw! Really would be nice to have a first-person, eye-level camera option without having to eject first. :) PC: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | MSI Suprim GeForce 3090 TI | ASUS Prime X570-P | 128GB DDR4 3600 RAM | 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD | Win10 Pro 64bit Gear: HP Reverb G2 | JetPad FSE | VKB Gunfighter Pro Mk.III w/ MCG Ultimate VKBcontrollers.com
