Hello, is there any possible way systems wise to IFF before you fire off your heat seeking missile?

Playing online when both Russian and Western aircraft are available to both sides, its hard to know if that aircraft is indeed friend or foe.

If there is no IFF system, then I will just have to get closer and look for the markings to get a positive id.

You can either do it visually or call AWACS/GCI to identify it for you. As far as I know there's no third way.

That's one of the big problems with the current set of MP missions on the populated servers. We're getting to a point where about half the planes in the game have no means of identifying targets other than visually. And unless the two sides use different types of planes, that's basically impossible. There are skins of course, but that requires the player to know who is using what skins. It also requires the skins to display properly at several km and be distinctly different. I noticed with the MiG-21 that the default Serbian skin shows at any range beyond about 500m regardless of which skin is used. I think some of the other planes have a similar issue. And all the A-10 skins I've seen look pretty much the same. So no help with that one either even if they do display properly.

Ultimately, something is going to have to give in terms of mission design for both SP and MP. Popular servers like 104th are going to have to either restrict themselves to FC3 fighters, add in invincible AWACS everywhere or start side restricting stuff. I've already seen a few nightmare scenarios where blue team A-10's decide to go hunt red team A-10's. You can imagine the cluster**** it was.

Yes this is for the 104th server. I have found if you have no IFF system, then it really is guessing if you're going to shoot a friendly or not.

Because both sides fly both aircraft types its just impossible. At the moment on that server the Su-25 cannot use its air to air missiles in anger unless seriously risking a team kill.

The other day I flew past a "friendly" blackshark- then started taking fire. I turned and was about to remove him from the sky with a Vikhr but luckily saw AAA coming up from the ground. It was that which hit me.

Other times I've seen an aircraft near me and assumed it was friendly- then promptly been shot down by it.

Those scenarios are indeed a fustrating part of having all types of A/C available to both sides. I'd like to see that trend stop, but I know I don't have any control over it other than starting my own server. ;)
