Ancalime Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Hi guys, and gals, First off, I wish to say I particularly like DCS, I am really impressed and playing only for some 3 weeks now, and wow, this is fantastic. Being new to all this, I was wondering something, and possibly you can help me out with a little 'how to' I currently have the Sabre and the MiG21 installed as paid for modules, however, every now and then an update arrives. Now in Steam, these updates apply automatically, but I have yet to find an auto-updater in the non-steam version. I am using the latter version, so not on steam, so, when an update arrives for a plane, how do I apply it? Download and overwrite or something? Many thanks upfront
cichlidfan Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 When you start DCS World, it will check for updates, if it has not checked in the past 24 hours. If an update is available you will be prompted to decide to install it or not. There is also an 'Update DCS World' in the Start Menu which will force an update check regardless of when the last check occurred. Ancalime Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 I can't find that option it seems.... i will take it as is then
Art-J Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 (edited) Maybe You didn't allow installer to make this shortcut. Run the updater manually then. The file name is DCS_updater.exe and You can find it in Your DCS World\bin\ folder. No need to do it today, because most likely You have the latest version already. But for the future reference - there are no separate updates for planes, they're all packed in a general patches for DCS, coming every now and then as You noticed. When the update comes, sometimes autoupdater doesn't want to "detect" it. Manual method works really well then. Also, keep in mind that ED publishes beta version patches and "regular" version patches separately, so If You read on the forum posts of folks being excited about some update but you cannot download it, it will most often mean they talk about beta patch, while the final one for You will come a couple of days later.
