NeilWillis Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 No! he discovered something that was wrong with the aircraft, and went to the forums to report it. He payed for the plane and wants it to be as good as possible. Even devlopers want their customers to report problems, and if a company cant take criticism from a costumer about something faulty then i dont think they are suited for the job. In fact, he didn't report a bug, because despite what he posted, he failed to point out what was specifically incorrect, or support it with one jot of evidence. What is wrong is the first thing you need to state when reporting a bug, and all he did was generalise, and moan about paying for a module that - in his opinion - doesn't work the way he'd like. I have some bad news for a lot of you out there. Beta products have flaws, that's why they're in Beta. What Leatherneck need is a single, coherent post that reports specifics, to which they can respond. They don't want 5 separate posts all saying vaguely that there is a problem, but not saying exactly what that problem is, based on hard facts. They also don't need people complaining because they haven't got the patience to see what changes occur when the supposed bug has already been reported.

gezahu Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 I really hate to repeat myself. 1. ASP is fed by radar and gives accurate firing solution for targets between 600-2000m when locked, in case of losing lock it gives solution for 600m fixed range. Given that ASP is in auto mode, firing gun, radar is on and target is locked. 2. Paralell to that ASP schould give range indication. In spite of that the current ASP is a mess, it works OK only in fixed 300 mode no radar is needed. It does fail even vhen you introduce distance manually, it fires way too short.

Hadwell Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 (edited) another thing is the ranging data shows when you're in A2A mode with R-3Rs selected, and have a lock on an air target... you can see the ASP needle go down. If you set it to A2G mode, and switch the hud to gun mode, does the sight still lead properly for air targets? I've only ever used the fixed net or a fixed range, so... I realize LN is working to fix it to how it should be, but there might be a work around, to use it as it currently is... Cobra847 Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 As has been mentioned previously in this thread; there are some bugs in the ASP being fixed. In particular the ballistic calculation is slightly off resulting in incorrect firing solutions. However; There is no computing capability for the reticle based on the Sapfir as you describe. This will not be added. Nicholas Dackard Founder & Lead Artist Heatblur Simulations https://www.facebook.com/heatblur/
Flagrum Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 As has been mentioned previously in this thread; there are some bugs in the ASP being fixed. In particular the ballistic calculation is slightly off resulting in incorrect firing solutions. However; There is no computing capability for the reticle based on the Sapfir as you describe. This will not be added. Well, what about the claims gezahu made here: OK to prove my points: 1. ASP is fed by radar data: I don't think it is serious to debate on that, if someone doubts that he/she has problems understanding plane english. Even the Leatherneck manual states that: "The third switch is (CU15), and it is used to select either automatic (up) or manual (down) distance and target size calculation. When in automatic mode, the ASP will draw the pipper according to either Sapphire data (if the airborne/ground target is radar-locked), or pre-set distance, target size and angular corrections that enable optimal use of ASP sight." That is exactly what I am saying, but not seeing in the sim. Further reading: "real manual" page 58 point c.) 2. Auto mode computes trajectory for targets 600-2000m away RL manual page 58 c.) 3. ASP schould indicate target distance of locked target in A-A gun mode using the scale: RL manual 59 a.) This is not a simple reading as this book was translated from russian to english for indian and arabic pilots. The usage of terms is not consequent. see the attached excerpts of the LNS manual (point 1) and the US manual (points 2 and 3). I think, he has got a valid point here.

Random Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 It's very strange that it has radar ranging in A2G mode but not A2A. Unless the -1.5 degree max downward angle on the Radar just means when pulling lead to hit the target you lose ranging data? So pilots would be taught to manually dial in range perhaps? So could be technically possible just not practical. Just my thoughts on the matter. I don't use the gun much at the moment except for strafing.

Flagrum Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 An other indication that the radar provides ranging information to the ASP for A2A gun employments: Betriebsart "Entfernungsmesser" Diese Betriebsart wird durch das Umschalten des Schalters "Giro-SS" am optischen Visier ASP-PF-21 in die Stellung "Giro" eingeschaltet. Am optischen Visier befinden sich außerdem noch zusätzliche Anzeigelampen für das Kommando "Abkurven" (rot) und "Erfassen" (grün).(http://www.mig-21-online.de/Funkmessvisier/fmv_entfernungsmesser.htm) Granted, they talk about the RP-21MA, but it would be quite implausible if a newer system would be less capable ... quick&dirty translation of the quote: Operation Mode "Distance Measuring" This operation mode will be enabled by switching the lever "Gyro - SS" at the ASP-PF-21 optical sight to "Gyro". With this, a precise distance measuring in the RP-21MA for shooting with unguided rockets and with the cannon for ranges from 600m to 2000m with a precision of +- 45m, will be activated. The measured range will be displayed at the distance scale of the ASP PF 21. Additionally there are lamps at the optical sight that idicate the cues for "break contact" (red) and "lock" (green).
Harle Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 (edited) Let me correct a little Gezahu's last post: "текущая дальность" - current distance Cobra, I believe some explanation is in order concerning this line from page 132 of the manual "When in automatic mode, the ASP will draw the pipper according to either Sapphire data (if the airborne/ground target is radar-locked), or pre-set distance, target size and angular corrections that enable optimal use of ASP sight". Or you could ask Novak to leave some comment on the way airborne gun targetting works and how the radar takes part in the process. Edited February 20, 2015 by Harle

Cobra847 Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 You see that is why it is important to discuss issues like that because even leatherneck has no clue how ASP schould work, becuse it is that complicated. Otherwise I hardly doubt that anybody will find a statement like "Radar feeds ASP with distance data" as you won't find statement like "the landing gear is rotating" or the "canopy is transparent". Manuals are made for professionals who due to their former education are aware of the OBVIOUS things, the rotating wheels problem has been solved some 10000 years ago and feeding ASP with automatic distance data is something had been solved for more than two deacdes prior to the release of the Bis (even a Mig-17 was capable of that), and questining that is quite unprofessional, and something I would not expect from a simulation enthusiast let alone a developer.... I may have misunderstood what Novak told me last night. I am by no means an expert on the MiG-21, personally, and I'm not the one working on the ASP at present. I am the one who does most of the interfacing here with the community, however. Perhaps you're right and I misunderstood and relayed incorrect info. And we are very aware of how it operates. One of us flies the aircraft on a consistent basis and operates the ASP in flight and training. Whatever is incorrect will be corrected. I will refrain from commenting more on the ASP corrections; as obviously it's only leading to perceived unprofessional-ism. (Always love that particular beratement!)
