Durnox Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I wonder if I generally misunderstood something: According to the manual the Airspeed Indicator shows the airspeed in IAS. Yesterday I switched to the external view (F2): There the speed was about 10% lesser than shown on the gauge. I'm not sure what is displayed there - IAS, TAS, GS...but shouldn't that value be greater (or at least equal) instead of lesser? Spec: i7 3.4GHz; 16GB; NVidia GTX 970, 4GB; win10; 24' 1080; TM Warthog, Saitek Pro Pedals, Track IR5

So, if you're flying into a headwind, your GS can easily be less than IAS (especially at low level).
Cibit Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Also the options give a choice of metric and imperial units of measure. The huey gives IAS in knots IIRC i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
kontiuka Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Ya, you can have an IAS of 100 kts and a ground speed of 0 kts. As an aside, the speed shown in the outside view is not exactly ground speed. It's the speed through the DCS World 3D space. So, you could be in a vertical climb at 800 kts and the outside view will show 800 even though your ground speed would be 0.
Durnox Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Well, it was a level flight, so vertical speed does not matter (forgot to mention) The external view shows knots for me - so m/s is not the reason. Wind: Oh Yes - I didnt notice any wind in either direction, but ok...thats seems to be the reason. How stupid not to think about wind!? Anyway: I checked it in a quick ME and there the external view showed some knots above the gauge (at 3000ft) - as expected (level flight, no wind). Spec: i7 3.4GHz; 16GB; NVidia GTX 970, 4GB; win10; 24' 1080; TM Warthog, Saitek Pro Pedals, Track IR5
b00ce Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 What altitude/air temperature are you flying at? If I remember correctly DCS supports "true airspeed" vs. "indicated airspeed".
