Bearcat Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Greetings gents! It's been a while.. A few years back I remember that we could alter our pilot skin.. Thewn that option was removed.. I have heard that it is now back.. Can anyone enlighten me on how this is now done.. Before it was done like this but I hear that now it is a little different. I had mangaed to get a pretty decent skin of myself in my cockpit.. I would like to do that again if possible.. Can anyone point me in the right direction..? Mainstay Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 (edited) What aircraft? For example you can find the pilot files of the F-86 in the f-86f.zip file. Located ; \Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\CoreMods\aircraft\F-86\Textures Edited March 3, 2015 by Mainstay
Bearcat Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 (edited) I will do all of them eventually but I was starting with the P-51. I know where the files are for the P-51 .. and IIRC you had to edit the description file to point to it.. I remember a while back I could do that.. and then they changed it where you couldn't.. I just started to get back into this again and I heard from a squadmate that that option was re added.. I am just trying to figure out the process to do it.. I had a custom pilot skin with a custom helmet and I just can't figure out how to see it.. Bourrinopathe Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 (edited) I was trying to change the Su-27 pilot helmet/skin and it's a simple pilot_su.dds variant. (the russian helmet texture alignment tends to be messed up, so there's no point to go hires) It has to be added to the description.lua in the specific livery folder. Using pilot_su_whatever.dds, just add this line : {"pilot_SU_body", 0 , "pilot_su_whatever",false}; There's a pilot_parashut.edm model in the \Bazar\World\Shapes folder which is used for the ejected russian pilots. I have no idea if it could be modified to be livery-specific though (otherwise, it's a common model and texture). It's the old gen clone pilot ;) Edited March 3, 2015 by Bourrinopathe /// ВКБ: GF Pro MkII+MCG Pro/GF MkII+SCG L/Black Mamba MkIII/Gladiator/T-Rudder MkII | X-55 Rhino throttle/Saitek Throttle Quadrant | OpenTrack+UTC /// ZULU +4 /// /// "THE T3ASE": i9 9900K | 64 GB DDR4 | RTX 2080ti OC | 2 TB NVMe SSDs, 1 TB SATA SSD, 12 TB HDDs | Gigabyte DESIGNARE mobo ///

Shahdoh Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Make sure to match up the correct head link with the correct ID. {"pilot_P51_head_B", 0 ,"pilot_P51_head_b_UNIQUEID",false}, Needs an ID = 5 -- -- Tuskegee airmen head where as: pilot_P51_head_A (with the WWII leather helmet) requires ID = 4 We have also found out, that these extra details can create graphic corruptions with other liveries for the same aircraft type that do not have the same "links" in the description lua. Which ever loads up first seems to be fine, but if another skin loads that either has the links in a different order or not at all (like pilot heads and props - rarely used) that aircraft may not load things in the correct spots. What I suggest is a template of the description.lua that has all of these links, in a pre-set order. If it is not a custom file, then it can just point to the default with the "true" argument. Have noticed a problem though when mixing the modern helmets with the leather ones as you can only have 1 and not the other, and have not sorted out how best to handle that just yet. /salute

Shahdoh Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Yes, you place your custom skin files in same folder as the description.lua
Whiplash Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Make sure to match up the correct head link with the correct ID. So using the false value in place of liveries that don't use a custom texture like you described will fixes this issue completely? what about when the custom skins are used on the same server with the original skins that don't have the false code lines for the face or helmet or whatever. Will this still cause the graphics issue? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Adulthood is like looking both ways before you cross the street and then getting hit by an airplane." Shahdoh Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 (edited) First off, they are not false entries, they would be actual entries, but ones that are "normally" read by default. You point them to the default skin name with a value of "true". I know, does not make much sense, but it seems that the first skin to load, sets the standard for the rest. If the first skin your system sees has the links, it expects the others to have them as well and will not use the "default" link like it would if it loaded that one first instead. Vice versa, if the first skin to load utilizes a "default" link, it wont read the custom link in the description.lua. So, yes, the default skins will create a problem till they are all updated with the extra links. Have not thoroughly tested this, but I know certain areas are order specific. Cockpit details (pilot/helmet/patches/etc) need to be in the same order from 1 skin to the next or it will swap them on you, again, first one in(that your computer sees) sets the order. Prop animation files, there are 3, are more than likely the same. See my Miss America Too skin for the links needed to customize the animated prop. In sorting this out, I have fixed the description.luas on 28 aircraft that I have in my mustang racing series. Some are default aircraft, and many customs(helmets/patches/props/etc). Since standardizing the description.luas we have not had 1 texture corruption with anyone using these same skin files on the racing server. Edited March 4, 2015 by Shahdoh

Shahdoh Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Yes, at a minimum, standardize the order of links with each skin in your squad. If you use mine as a template for the order, we will be that much closer to having a standardization. For the most part, I used the most common sequence that I had seen from all the custom skins I have, so not much should have to change. Just remember, if a skin does not have the link for an area, to put it in, point it to the default skin name (will be in 'textures\P-51D.zip) and set the final value to true. See the Voodoo description.lua above for example.
