Was looking at the Tacview of the Escort A-50 mission from Ultimate Argument, and I just saw what I can only describe as a pure Hollywood shot: My R-27 blew up right as the first F-5 fired his AIM-9, killing both the bogey and his missile.

anyone else ever have some crazy shenanigans like this happen?

Et or er?. Ir misiles. Will lock onto other missiles. So it is plausible. Also. Distance matters. Missiles don't really impact their target. They have proximity fuses. Blast radius is also important. I've seen 1 missile take out 2 aircrafts that simply where too close.

I haven't locked at the track but any of these 3 might explain what you described.

ER. If you watch the tacview, you can see my missile blows just off his nose, right after he launched his missile off the opposite wing. It happened exactly as you say, just got caught in the blast. It was simply the timing of it that was weird. Had he launched a second sooner, his missile would have been in the clear.

Yeah it's a lucky thing. Doesn't happen often but it does happen I have seen it before. I have even seen it happen to me on multiplayer and it registered as if I killed myself with my own missile.

If he shot at you, he's not a bogey anymore. :P

Sorry, I'm such a circle-jerking, annoying stickler for comm accuracy. :D

Or did you call him a bogey BECAUSE of the Holllywood-esque ridiculousness where they don't understand the word? Because that would be genius.

I have once managed to blow up an enemy missile with my gun, killing the enemy in the blast of his own missile. :D

Missile on missile hits are much more common, you can even attempt to shoot an incoming one with a heatseeker, just before impact. The proximity fuses take care that a direct hit is not required :D
