Jeffthepilot Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I was reading about the su-47 and saw this in the caption of one of the images. (I don't know how to embed pictures so I had it as an attachment:joystick:)
cichlidfan Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 (edited) That just demonstrates the downside of anyone being able to edit Wikipedia. There should be two 'p's, and an 'i' instead of an 'e', in 'flippin' :D Edited March 12, 2015 by cichlidfan ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! PFunk1606688187 Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Wikipedia is nice and all but its no academic resource. Half the stuff thats used as citations are dead links and you could never reference it for anything because as things get edited parts disappear. Its a nice reference for the conventional wisdom though. Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.
NeilWillis Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Wikipedia is useful, and I use it a lot for trivia, but when I want hard facts, I don't go there. As long as you are aware of it's shortcomings, it is great. As for spelling and grammar - they really are my pet hate. Each to their own. We won't be able to change the way the world thinks or acts, and we certainly wouldn't be thanked for trying! All we can do is sift out the nuggets and discard the spoil.
Jeffthepilot Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 is it me or did this kind of happen with a "lunar eclipse" definition? Didn't it say the moon would explode, or is that just me
NeilWillis Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Just thinking about the lunar eclipse makes my head explode - especially given the other thread running today about how Germany will be blacked out when all 30 Giga Watts of generating power that the recently installed solar panels provide is suddenly and catastrophically disconnected from the grid! I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm digging my nuclear shelter this afternoon! Anyone know where I can lay my hands on 8000 tons of lead to line it with? Now, where were those cans of baked beans...
Jeffthepilot Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 lead? try Wal-Mart, they have lead pencil refills.
VincentLaw Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 (edited) lead? try Wal-Mart, they have lead pencil refills. That is actually graphite, not lead. It says so on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead_(disambiguation) Edited March 12, 2015 by VincentLaw [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
cichlidfan Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 That is actually graphite, not lead. It says so on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead_(disambiguation) graphite and clay, actually. :) ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Buzzles Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Wikipedia is a great reference source for gaining knowledge. I used it quite frequently back when I did my undergrad. It's fantastic for giving you lots of links where you can go off and actually research stuff, especially the more technical articles where citations tend to be for books (with ISBN numbers!) rather than just links to websites. Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!
Jeffthepilot Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 I know it is graphite, I was saying it as a joke. I felt 8000tons of pencial lead is a strange order for Wal-Mart.
