bl_asd Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 so..i used trackfacenoir and freetrack..both were just ok.. i use with Philips webcam (recommended on freetrack page) at about 30 fps. I been thinking to use trckir5 lately. My question is..does it harm the eyes? I think the tracking device got like 4 IR LED on it and u have to place it in front of the face. Does the IR harm the eyes (I know we are not looking directly at it..but still it's in front of the face)? We are not supposed to even look at IR lights.
HiJack Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 The IR lights are on your heads left side and they are really dim so I think they are not dangerous. Would they be allowed to sell anything that could damage your eyes you believe? The receiver that is placed on the screen frame just have two normal led lights.
blaueente Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Hi Thats not correct. The Receiver has 4 IR LED's to lighten up the Clip for Basecaps. They seem always actice to me BUT i dont think that they have the strength of a Laser. MfG Edit : So i don't think they do any harm to my eyes...
DaveofDefeat Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Doesn't hurt your eyes anymore than that monitor you got glaring in your eyes does.
DarkFire Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 As I understand it the IR illuminator LEDs in the actual TrackIR camera unit are only in use when the player is using a track clip, i.e. the small clip that you have to attach to a hat. The track clip pro (the powered unit that attaches to a headset) has it's own IR LEDs built-in so when the TrackIR is set to track clip pro mode the internal LEDs in the camera unit are shut down. Hope this helps... Edited to add: If you're wondering about purchasing one, I've always found the TrackIR to be about 20x as accurate and precise as any of the "DIY" versions using web cams and the like. King_Hrothgar Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 IR radiation in any amount that falls short of melting your face is not harmful to human eyes or any other tissue.

JayPee Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Not true. The camera unit does have 4 IR LEDs to light up the cap reflectors, should you use a cap. However, when you use the Pro Clip (and you should) the 4 IR LEDs are turned OFF completely because IR light is generated from the LEDs on the Pro Clip. This way there is no IR light source pointing even remotely at your eyes, should this be your concern. i7 4790K: 4.8GHz, 1.328V (manual) MSI GTX 970: 1,504MHz core, 1.250V, 8GHz memory
