If I open the squelch on the R-863 I can hear the static, but regardless the correct frequency, the tower won't answer.

SPU-7 is set to Radio.

Dial on the SPU-7 is set to the first stage (ЧKB)

modulation is set to AM.

radio is set to use manual dialing, emergency freq switch is down.

Layringophone is switched off (down).

I am testing this currently in a simple mission having my Mi-8 on the ramp at Kobuleti.

133 and 262 MHz both are dead in the R-863. Whenever I call the tower, no one answers. Also no automatic messages from the tower are received (like startup clearance when you already start up at own discretion)

Can anyone confirm the R-863 is still working in the present DCS build?

Yep, it does. Helicopter cold -> powered up (batteries or ground, doesn't matter) -> ICS/Radio switch to radio -> AM/FM switch to AM -> select frequency on bottom panel -> bring up the radio menu, communicate with ATC.

Make sure You bring up "R863" menu and not the "Intercom" menu, 'cause I think default bindings for these have been changed in 1.2.16 - maybe this is the cause of Your problem?

I just tested it in the cold start tutorial. There you start at Mozdok (137.0 MHz)

Also here, no communication with ATC possible...

There is no such difference. There is also only one single communications binding in the control options. The selection on the SPU-7 decides, which radio your mic actually is keying.

Are you using RALT + \ to bring up the comms menu or just \? The first combination is used for talking with the mike keyed (through the ICS/Radio depending on the switch you have set correctly), while \ makes the pilot talk without keying the mike - this can only be used to talk to ground crews.

Ok guys, can you tell me when did this change? I was abstinent from DCS for half a year or so. What is purpose of the communications key now? Is it only left for those dudes using easy comms?

Don't tell me it worked that way since Mi-8 release, I never used easy comms...

I believe it's RShift + \ instead of RAlt + \ now. Don't remember how it's called in game controls menu, switch to radio communication tab and You'll find it easily.

That's what caught me when I tried to contact ATC for the first time after updating to 1.2.16 and didn't know why they didn't respond. Had to reassign buttons on my joystick and all is OK now.

As for the double comm assignments themselves, they certainly were here in 1.2.15, no idea about previous versions, 'cause I'm a relatively new Mi-8 flyer.

I remember it working like this from the beginning. The purpose of the two keys is what I said. Press \ if you want to talk without holding the ICS/RADIO button on the cyclic (for the position of the switch see: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/magnificent_eight/index.php?PAGEN_2=3 ). As of now it only makes sense when talking to the ground crew. RALT + \ makes the pilot hold the ICS/RADIO switch as he talks, meaning he will communicate either through the intercom or the radio, depending on the position of a switch on the upper panel. I think you can also use the RALT + \ combination to talk to the ground crew - if that's the case, maybe that's why you remember only ever using one key combination.
