nandrews Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 I d/l and installed DCS World from the DCS site (all 7 files) about 2 months ago. Now I come to add in some aircraft I am finding I can't and it seems, from what I read, that I my DCS World is now linked to Steam and I can't add the aircraft modules I download from this same site! How come my DCS World has been linked to Steam (and blocked) when I d/l it from this site?! Thanks Nigel
Rongor Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Because you did read bs. Where did your read it? In the news? Simply look at your computer! Your DCS isn't linked to steam as long as you downloaded it at ED and did not install DCS World from Steam. Please don't be so vague when saying you "come to add in some aircraft I am finding I can't". Explain your situation exactly and people may help.
nandrews Posted April 13, 2015 Author Posted April 13, 2015 Sorry, I thought I had given sufficient detail for the problem I was asking about. The problem - my DCS install is under Steam - shows in the Steam library and runs only from the Steam folder in my start menu. I d/l the install files from the DCS site NOT Steam (7 files took over 8 hrs to d/l). So the question is how is it that it is appearing under Steam? The subsequent problem is that, as Support tell me, I cannot install modules d/l from DCS into the 'Steam version'. But as I say above I never d/l or intentionally installed the 'Steam version'! I am loathed to spend another 8 hrs d/l again if I am going to find again that it has installed under Steam and I can't install the modules I have bought. Hopefully that explains better? Thanks Nigel
Rongor Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 If you have it in your steam library and don't want to have it installed there, simply right click onto the library line saying "DCS World", select "Delete local content" and exit steam. Then go ahead with installing your DCS World files you downloaded from ED.
Rongor Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) The problem - my DCS install is under Steam - shows in the Steam library and runs only from the Steam folder in my start menu. I d/l the install files from the DCS site NOT Steam (7 files took over 8 hrs to d/l). So the question is how is it that it is appearing under Steam? This is impossible. If you downloaded from ED and ran the installer, there is now way your installation was incorporated by Steam. The title "DCS World" may only appear in Steam if you started to install it using Steam at least one time in the past. By the way I have it also in my Steam library, although I didn't install it using Steam. That is because I added it to my Steam library as a non-steam-game. This doesn't mean I installed it there, it is a link only I start from the Steam GUI, to keep my Steam friends aware I started DCS. Edited April 26, 2015 by Rongor
cichlidfan Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) Please take a screen shot of your DCS main menu screen. Also, what is the exact wording of the error you get when you try to install a module? EDIT: Btw, according to your old post, you installed it via Steam. ... P.S. I installed thru' Steam and so I do not have an install folder. nandrews Posted April 27, 2015 Author Posted April 27, 2015 Thank-you all. I have now re-downloaded DCS and have removed it from Steam and run the install again. This time it is installed outside Steam. I have no reason for the previous install appearing in Steam. I certainly didn't choose it from Steam and definately downloaded it from Eagle (I remember it taking over 8 hours to download all the parts!). Anyway all is working now and I have been able to install the aircraft (modules) that I bought. Thanks again Nigel
