drafz Posted May 7, 2006 Share Posted May 7, 2006 Hello everybody. i'm quite disappointed with starforce drivers. few hour ago , my lockon was fonctionnal. i installed city life , a new game , who used starforce. it installed me starforce drivers. since this time , my lockon doesnt work anymore. so , i tried to solve my problem. first, i uninstalled city life. then , i ran "protect /drv:install", i rebooted, and ran "protect /drv:check". it reported me that starforce drivers were installed entirely. but the probleme stay same. when i launch lockon.exe , application stop itself . so , i uninstall SF drivers with "protect /drv:remove" , rebooted, reinstalled a 2nd time , rebooted,and retry to launch game.... it doesnt works. i dont have idea . i tried too to register my protect.dll file with the command "regsvr32 protect.dll" , and it reported me : "Protect.dll was loaded but the DLLregisterServer entry point was not found. DLLregisterServer may not be exported, or a corrupt version of Protect.dll may be in memory. consider using Pview to detect and remove it." i dont knowwhat is Pview, it semm it"s a part of windows SDK. i'm not developper, and i dont have windows SDK. any help would be appreciated. ps: and i have actually 0 activation available, but i have my registry key saved somewhere. i ope it will not be a problem when my SF pb will be resolved. So, you click the icon on desktop and what happens then? it load starfoce , mouse freeze 2 time , asusually , and at the moment of display lockon loading bar , it stop instantly , wihtout any error message . Floyd Posted May 7, 2006 Share Posted May 7, 2006 Ok, i'm no StarForce-expert, but you may try this: start device manager, click 'view' and select 'display hidden devices' (running a non-englisch XP here). You will see a list of non-PnP-drivers, including Starforce. Make sure nothing is left over when you uninstalled the drivers. Floyd Posted May 8, 2006 Share Posted May 8, 2006 IMHO the problem is related to the new game he installed and which uses StarForce, too. If this game came with newer drivers there is a chance that Lockon may not run/start any more. One can test this by uninstalling all Starforce drivers (removal tool and checking in non-PnP-drivers manually to be sure all got removed) and start Lockon. The old drivers should be installed again. Btw, uninstalling the new game probably didn't uninstalled the SF drivers (therefore the removal tool, check http://www.star-force.com). As he told about activation keys he is running the non-CD version - and Lockon run ok before installing the new game. Best would be to contact SF support. brewber19 Posted May 8, 2006 Share Posted May 8, 2006 its interesting, and I really dont want to tempt fate here BUT....., I have an X2 4400+ and havent had a single issue with LO except for the predictable stuttering when it tries to load balance across both cores when online (I now use pro-caff to put LO to a single core when multiplayer which fixed that issue...I've also figured out how to record with FRAPS and still get 30FPS :D - much quicker that LO avi renderer). Anyways, am curious as to what specific problems people have with LO and dual-core that they think are related to SF.....just in case I ever run in to problems.
