JPS2K Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I have a problem: All the missions/campaigns I try to start, start with my Huey crashing (except one, were I could opt for a coldstart). I press fly and before I can grab the controls it sais 'clunk', and sits on the ground without a rotor. Maybe once every 10 times I can grab the controls fast enough to move before it does. What am I missing here ? I've only just started out, I am able to take-off and (sometimes) land, but I wanted to see some more... On a sidenote: Is an MI-8 easier to fly/learn?

Are you pre-positioning your cyclic, throttle, and collective to match anticipated flight parameters prior to hitting Fly. If, need be, you can got into M.E. and reduce initial airspeed to facilitate gaining control. Don't exactly recall the significance of this setting in this regard but play around with "Synchronize Cockpit controls with HOTAS controls at Mission startup" under OPTIONS/MISCELLANEOUS. On a sidenote: Don't give up on Huey. It is painful to master but once you do (and you will) it's a beautiful thing. DeJohn Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I press fly and before I can grab the controls it sais 'clunk', and sits on the ground without a rotor. That happens to me every once and a while. The culprit is sometimes DCS assigns another axis to the collective. ie... in my case it assigned one of the rudder toe break axis to the collective, which causes the engine to over rev at mission start. I would check your assignments to make sure this hasn't happened.
JPS2K Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 I think I have figured it out. If I set my collective, grab the stick and apply left rudder, and then press pause/break twice, the game is unpaused and I start on the ground. I'm guessing first keypress starts mission and picks up on my controls, second keypress actually unpauses the entire thing. If I press the 'fly' button with my mouse however, I somehow blow the rotor straight off... I'm not even sure if I need to set the controls if I start with the pause/break, since I start with the engine on but on the ground. Anyway, I happily flew up the river round the bend :)
DrDetroit Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I use to have that issue, until I unchecked the "sync controls" option (something to that effect). Doesn't happen any longer because now the controls are neutral until I move them. Good luck! DrDetroit
Chic Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 JPS2K I thought you were talking bout quick missions where you start in the air. Never experienced your issue when starting on ground. I think DrDetroit's observation makes sense though. JPS2K Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 Yes, tested and conformed. Disabled sync controls, seems to work. Flew my 1st mission almost to the end (kinda crash landed near the vehicles and the Hinds). I'm a happy camper :pilotfly:

JPS2K Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 I have to report, I'm so happy ! After finishing the 1st UN mission by basicly just landing the Huey like an airplane (slide it in and skid into place :music_whistling:), I was stuck at the 2nd mission for a week, mostly crashing while landing. I decided to be a bit more bold today, and instead of being very carefull and trying to micro-adjust my movement, I just flew in and starting working the controls like a madman. Apparently this works better. So I made 2nd mission :pilotfly:

BTW, you need to practice "flying" (several weeks) before you even fire a shot much less do missions. Mastering the hover is the single most important step in mastering the Huey. Sling load drills are a less painful way to learn to hover. Pay your dues, then missions will become a breeze. JPS2K Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 Ye, I do need to practice hovering and landing. I just can't repeat the same thing over and over for hours, so I'm doing the UN campaign as I go along. Almost made mission 3, but crashed while landing back at base (did drop off the reporter correctly). I'm just telling myself that if a war was going on and the pilot would be shot and I would suddenly have to fly the damn thing, there wouldn't be any time to practice either :joystick: I will look for more training/practice missions.
Chic Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 JPS2K do you do any modding? JPS2K Posted May 17, 2015 Author Posted May 17, 2015 Not really... Not yet. I did install the Vietnam Mod because it was needed for some campaign (that I haven't gotten to yet), and I looked at the Helios profile but decided that since I bought a TrackIR I don't really need it untill I have a touchscreen Yes, in 2 weeks time I bought a Warthog, pedals, TrackIR, FC3 and Huey. Ow and P-51 on it's way on DVD because it was on sale. When I try something new I try to not go cheap and have a real experience, instead of being disappointed just because I lack something. If I fail, it's probably me :noexpression:

Chic Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 (edited) Install this Mod Cargo + Helipads + external fuel-tank for the UH-1 found here http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=124251. Then run the attached mission. On the runway are 2 cargos to practice sling loads. Landing on tower tops challenging and fun. In time you will be leap frogging them AND dropping off your sling loads on them Use the towers as a slalom run. Practice maintaining altitude during the run both in and out of ground effect. As you improve, your runs will get tighter.UH-1-IA-Free Flight Towers Cargo Hot .miz Edited May 18, 2015 by Chic A Co, 229th AHB, 1st Cav Div ASUS Prime Z370-A MB, Intel Core i7 8700K 5.0GHz OC'd, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4, 1TB SSD, Win 10 Samsung 65" 4K Curved Display (Oculus Rift occaisionally), Track IR5, VoiceAttack, Baur's BRD-N Cyclic base/Virpil T-50CM Grip, UH-1h Collective by Microhelis & OE-XAM Pedals.
