GGTharos Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 I ran into a very, very old simulation (which I have not yet reproduced) which indicated that a barrel roll would double the miss distance of a split-S. Their numbers were hardly believable and there were other issues witht he simulation also, but that doesn't really diminish the conclusion too much: Barrel Rolling increases Miss Distance over the Split-S. The problem there, however, is that missiles have had their miss distances reduced more and more, so if your original miss distance from a Split-S was 5m off the CoG, and you double it, 10m off the CoG is still one very blown up aircraft. (I haven't actually gotten to your own sources Reaper, sorry ... I don't know if they had concrete numbers in their conclusions, but given the numbers that I HAVE seen in papers so far, they don't look all that realistic in a lot of cases) The search continues (but slowly). As for patents ... eminent domain. I heard from someone that all you have to do to defeat an on-axis barrel roll is let the missile corkscrew. I'm not entirely certain how useful this is though. So far what I've heard that all missile evasion maneuvers are all quite violent. Brit_Radar_Dude Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Does anyone think that poor guy RedHammer will dare ask another question ? Don't give me excuse Brit Radar Dude. No one here is gona miss you. RedHammer - I think you misunderstood my meaning, it was not a hit against you. You asked for help with a sensible question and sadly :( the thread turned into many pages of a big argument which was no help to you at all. My meaning was that it would make you think it would be a complete waste of time to ask another question since you would not get a useful answer. Also, I'd like to think I might be missed just a little....;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....

And I took Red's post as a offhand reply to a bad scene, while taking a jab at the same time. Nothing more. It was Funny. I am beginning to believe that this forum is sapping peoples humor. Ukr_Alex Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 You guys do know that there is a retired Mig-29 pilot in the Russian section of the forum right? Maybe you can ask him? I would, but I'm still waiting for my cyrilic keyboard stickers to arrive. :Core2Duo @ 435FSB x 7 3.05GHz : ATI x1900xtx: 2GB Patriot @ 435Mhz : WD 250Gb UATA: Seagate 320Gb SATA2: X-Fi Platinum:
