So I recently returned to DCS and quickly I found myself trying to achieve very weird stuff. While goofing around in the F-15 instant action mission, I found myself flying low and fast. Out of boredom I kept spamming my cannon. To my surprise I found out that If I actually get the angle right, I can outrun or even coincide with my bullets. Here's an example of my bullets splashing right in front of me:

Though even after trying for 10 minutes and flying inside the bullet storm, I just couldn't get my bullets to hit me.

Has anyone actually managed to kill themselves this way?

Edit: I accidentally a word in the title

I have managed to do this once or twice when not breaking to the side after a strafing run with the A-10C.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Come let's eat grandpa!

This is also a real life hazard. I grew up near RAF Holbeach in Lincolnshire, a bombing and gunnery range. At least 2 Harriers had managed to shoot themselves down from a ricochet on the range, the Pilot managing to eject from one the other being killed.

Many moons ago as young fearless Bogy fighter pilot I pressed a 10degree strafe pass to a ridiculous stage in a Mirage. Got a lot of hits and them some. When I shut down and walked away from the aeroplane there was a strange sound coming from under the wing. On investigation there sat a 30mm ball round embedded in the lower wing penetrating the wing fuel tank .... the residual pressure hissing out around the round. Post event some "required or directed" reading was a French study on the danger of ricochets. A diagram from that document shown below. The RAAF lost at least 2 Mirages from self inflicted ricochet damage.
