OnlyforDCS Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Sounds like a trojan sniffing out your packets. Im not sure that your AV software will find anything, since most trojans will be very hard to remove (and ahead of most AV software) once your PC is infected. Do you use any other online games or software? If it is a trojan it will happen again with another application perhaps, but if it happened to me I would waste no time to reformat my PC. It's a hassle but its better than some hackers getting access to my credit card info., email accounts etc. P.S. DONT change your passwords etc. from this PC before you reformat it! AtaliaA1 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 (edited) I don't believe you have a virus. When was the last time you heard of a virus on a "Personal PC" unless it is an old one that is eliminated by most if not all AV on the market. That FW program is responsible for the "Supposed" attack on your system. To make you dependent on them. Typical reaction is OMG that program worked for me, now you want it. I would bet dollars to donuts that FW program is your culprit. I have been running my PC without AV software sense the early 2000's. I fallow solid PC practices i.e. Do not open emails from senders you do not know, don't click on items in web pages that are not Corporate pages. Links to sites that point to items of interest need legitimate names, for example a odd name then the website you are intending to visit. AV makers depend on the "Urban Myths" about virus'. The lack of knowledge in the use of a personal computer keeps them in business. Don't get me wrong there are "Hackers" out there, they aren't looking for some random Joe Blow to hack. There's no money in it for them. They want Corporate accounts with information to financial documents that allow them to steal money. Who cares about Grandmas' PC when the IRS and Visa are hack able. I do use Action Center and Security Essentials from Microsoft. less invasive and free. That FW Program needs your money. Think about all of the False Positives from the other programs out there. This company just started its offering and I bet they have those false positives neglected as the others did to increase there position in the market. Grandma will believe in the program after it defeats that false positive for sure. Use AV just don't be to quick to believe it is the "Bees Knees" is all I am saying. tacky_taco Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I will probably drop Security Essentials too, because given that no bad practices are used while navigating, Malwarebytes and the Windows FW willl probably be enough ? I don't know many versions back it goes, but at least Windows 8 comes with built in antivirus called Windows Defender. In this day and age, as long as you keep stuff updated, especially shitty java and shitty flash, I don't think you'd need any third party AV stuff. If you browse a lot of porn I'd still install addons like ghostery and noscript, though :) Also if you download and install a lot of freeware stuff, pay close attention during the installation process so you don't get annoying toolbars and startpages and whatnot.
