Kenan Posted May 23, 2006 Author Posted May 23, 2006 As I previously thought: This is a 'silent' agreement between greek and turkish fighter pilots..they are willingly engaging in these mock fights as it's some sort of an adrenaline rush. I really doubt they'll start firing missiles from now on, unless their commanders order them to do so..which I seriously doubt. Guest Hell Sqn Protos Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Respectfully must disagree. You don't go into foreign airspace without orders. I may be wrong but I cant really see why there would be a 'training mission' a few clicks off a Greek Island - Especially when the nearest Turk territory is over 160 km away. You need orders for that. Its all part of the intimidation game.
GGTharos Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Quit saying ridiculous things. There won't be any shooting. No one's dumb enough (I would hope) to turn a mock-engagement into a real shooting match. It's a tragic lost, and best left that way. Turks have lost pilots also to this. It's just the reality of the situation, plain and simple. Anyone who's hoping for a shooting match needs a smack in the head - accidents are accidents. Like engaging in mock dogfights? Expect accidents. That's all there is to it. 504 Wolverine Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 The news report says that the crash happened 12 miles east of Karpathos. 12 miles is the internationally recognised limit to a nations airspace. Is there any proof that the turkish fighter broke this 12 mile border? If not it is well within its rights to be in international air space. EDIT: BBC says that Greece only claims a 10 mile limit and that the crash took place at 8,000m 21 miles from Karpathos. Well outside Greek airspace and within international airspace A dangerous game to play that has lead to the untimely death of a person (no matter their nationality). My thoughts and sympathies to the dead pilots family. [/url]

airea Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 As a Turkish, I am really sorry for the Greek pilot and for his family. I wish such accidents never happen again...
Guest Hell Sqn Protos Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul conveyed his country's condolences to his Greek counterpart Dora Bakoyanni in a telephone conversation, the foreign ministry in Ankara said. "The two foreign ministers expressed their regret at today's incident and agreed that this should not affect the two countries' efforts to improve their relations," a Greek foreign ministry statement said Now this was ridiculous ........ what are you trying to say - is there a message here??? What does cutting a clipping off an internet new site mean? Get a grip on politics, the talking heads are making cooing noises at eachother while they sharpen their knives.
Force_Feedback Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 Frankly, I don't think anybody thinks the situatin between your two countries is serious enough to bring it to attention. Now, I don't know much about it, so would you please like to enlighten us to why your countries have their moments of hostility and friendship? And not over some conflict 100 years ago I hope, as that's the same as saying Germans are bad cause of some Austrian semi-jew that hated his own kind, or because some country dropped horrible weapons on civillian targets, or that all Russians are sadists because of what Stalin did. Always take your country's "news" with a grain of salt, even if your country says it has "freedom of speech" (well, that's stupid, as there are no countries that say they don't have freedom of information :P).
