drcarnage52 Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Hey guys I was thinking about upgrading my system to raise my FPS in DCS without spending too much money. I have heard that adding an SSD or improving my RAM makes a huge difference. I have an i7 CPU, 4gb RAM and a 2gb AMD radeon 6700 Any suggestions on which area if upgraded would have the most impact?
Sporg Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 As Cap'n Kamikaze said, look at a new or secondhand graphics card for a beginning. Even an old nVidia GTX 570 would give you 189 % more. Can you find a GTX 670 at a reasonable price it would be even better. After that, take a look also if your CPU can be overclocked. This gives a huge boost. It needs to be a K model, and then you need a new cooler if you only have the stock cooler on it now. SSD does not improve much more than loading time. Possibly 8 GB of RAM would be better, but not until you looked at the two above improvements. spaceraver Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 A R9 290x is good value for money and I have it myself. drcarnage52 Posted August 28, 2015 Author Posted August 28, 2015 Thanks all, I had a look and I can get a GTX 670 pretty cheap on ebay so i'll probably go for that and then look into RAM
xaoslaad Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 4GB is below the minimum requirement. Try to get at least 8, if not 16. You may get game crashes on large missions with just 4, or lots of stuttering if it can't load everything into RAM and windows starts trying to use the page file on disk to swap.
