Hi! I'd like to share my recorded dogfights as well as watching other ppl dogfights in the amazing "Balalaika". Not only vs modern fighters, but any kind of fight against any kind of enemy (or even dangerous or ninja ground pounding sorties). I'm new to this plane, got it just four weeks ago, I've been joining online servers for 3 days now and starting to get the hang of it....A LOT to learn yet if a want to go up against the more experienced pilots, but getting happier as i learn.

 

After my first air kill three days ago, five more followed in <51> squad 1965 Korean War Server which is very useful for practicing plane handling and system operations against equal or inferior planes (MiG21s, Hawks, MiG15s and Sabres)

Like taking a knife to a gun fight. Seems a bit odd to have the mig21 on a Korean War era server. Performance gap bigger than the one between the mig21 and the f15. 1965 and the Korean War are mutually exclusive, sounds like good target practice but the time line makes no sense at all lol

MiG-21s vs Sabres yes. But also vs another MiG21s and Hawks, not an uneven fight, is it? I'm sure MiG-21s vs F-15s and Su-27s is veeery equal fight :megalol:

 

Good pilots in Sabres can kill MiG-21s at low level with GAR8, i've seen it happening

 

Korea 1965 is a fictitious and excellent server for newbies to get a bit of experience in a MiG-21 before joining more demanding servers. Relax guys, and have fun.

I'm relaxed, and I have a lot of fun and I'm glad you do as well. I was just pointing out a couple of things. I also meant to imply that it is not an even fight between f15s and the mig21 but it is far more manageable as the mig 21 then it would be as the sabre vs the mig21.

I disagree. That is subjective. Anyway, i'm not interested in dragging this topic to a futile discussion; the title of this thread says it by itself.

the nice thing about warfare in the 1960s is the allies used their own planes... DCS needs some century series fighters, and definitely the f4, Draken and mirage III, for good opponents for the mig-21

I agree with you man; but in the meantime, i think facing other MiG-21s is the most equal we can have.

I didn't mean to imply that there was no skill involved, there is and your dogfighting is impressive. Mig21 vs mig21 would really put pilot skills to the test being on a completely even playing field. All I meant was that the gap between weapons capabilities between the mig21 and the sabre is larger than between the mig21 and the f15. Didn't intend to start any sort of debate with you. Cheers.

Then it's all clear mate! I must admit i was a bit defensive when i read your first comment and specially the fellow above you; is not the first time i've seen at this forum ppl posting negative comments when someone just wants to share nice things and his passion for this hobbie. The intention of my video was not to show "how good i am", actually is "look, i'm a rookie but i'm starting to learn". :thumbup:

 

You say skilled? LOL! No way, i got the MiG-21 four weeks ago, trying to figure out all this radar and missile business as i had no idea, i've been a " guns fighter" in il2 sturmovik for 9 years; and i don´t even have 5 days experience in online servers with the 21 yet. Check this video from yesterday, very short, but long enough to show the greenhorn i am haha! I did everything wrong:

 

1. After launching R3R i didnt follow the missile trail to find my tgt.

2. I lost track of him.

3. When i finally find him again i miss a great chance to lock him with SARH again.

4. I hesitate and lose time making up my mind whether to use IR or SARH

5. Lose track of him again.

 

It was an easy kill for any good 21 rider...i'm not one of those yet ! Here is the video

I think I would be about the same level as you Chimango! After flying il2 for a decade, the MiG-21 is on a whole new scale! The workload is huge, I concentrate on one thing and something else quickly goes wrong :megalol:

I'm taking it very slowly,and going nowhere near online servers for a while yet. :music_whistling:

Hey Uther good to know that! Let's join each other on TS and go to some server when you feel like it.

 

For me the transition to DCS was done three months ago when i installed the SIM and first got the lovely MiG-15bis. Smooth transition cause it was just about the same than i was used to, just gun fighting, almost no systems to care about and just focus on energy management and ACM while i got used to DCS visuals and general SIM functionality.

 

IMO as soon as you can join online servers, it will make you progress fast! For example from the last video i posted i learned a lot; i think we usually learn more from things than go wrong than those which get 100% right.

True! I started with the MiG 15 as well, the closest to what I was used to. The -21 is a bit more complicated though!

GOT MY FIRST KILL!

 

Last night i finally joined 104st server and on the second sortie i got my first kill! And it was an F-15 so twice as pleased :D

 

After my 2x R3R missed the target, i scored a R-60M hit and finished it with cannons.

but yea that happens, or when you have switches wrong and no missile comes out :P or pylon powers off.

 

I noticed you take a bad shot in that video, keep in mind that if your maddoging and the ticks on the line aren't closing in on that empty space between the contact and the line that hes flying away from you very fast or at least as fast as you are closing... when you fire he has already decided to turn away, instead you would want to radar off and wait and try to pick him up at a bit closer range, if you see that the ticks are closing fast then hes obviously heading straight at you so you can take a longer range shot if you must for example.

Thanks for the tip. Yes he was lagging when i shot both R3R...they both missed, and also when i was at his 6 with cannon, which made it hard to calculate deflection

 

Hey, i've just found this video. IMHO all MiG-21 lovers must watch; I think is the best PvP video i've watched with the "21".

Chimango, the situation of your 'King of the greenhorns' video is sooo reconizable. :P I die a little everytime that happens to me. Wich is a lot.

Got 2nd and 3rd two days ago, and since then I've been making progress. :smartass:

 

First kill showed here is an F15, i knew there were a bunch of them. I made some mistakes anyway, after getting the 1st one i chose the wrong valley to escape; and also when i maneuver get at the 2nd F15 six, the high-yo yo i do is too high and was picked up by a 3rd F15 which kills me as i was launching a R13M1. Second kill is quite clear, i ambush a bunch of A-10s and got one.

 

Funny part, the F15 pilot who shot me down is the one i got as my first kill at 104th :music_whistling:
