Choosing GPU

Recommended Posts

Im going to have a mid-life update of my computer.. which means the GPU..

And to be honest i mostly play old games, and DCS is the most demanding game i play.. so what do i need?? :)

I have the money to buy even a 980 Ti, but i guess it will be waste of money since i play at 1920x1080 single monitor, and i'm not a person that needs extreme fps to enjoy a game..

So, which should i go for?

1 ) GTX 960 2gb

2 ) GTX 960 4gb

3 ) GTX 970

4 ) GTX 980 Ti

edit : the cpu is OC'd 2550K with 16gb ram..

Good day Yeltzin.

This a question for the ages. It's based on such a wide range of factors. It is not a question that can be answered in one word. But here is my humble opinion.

If you have the money for the 980ti, go for it. This card will last you for a very long time. Even the 980, which is cheaper. If you are considering the 970, then I would also consider the AMD Radeon 390. I know, I know, a lot of us vouch for NVidia but, the 390 beats the 970 and it is cheaper and it has 8 gig's of RAM... so just consider it and look at the benchmark.

So that's it. I would consider the 980 if you have the money or the AMD 390 or NVidia 970 as the second option. I am a NVidia fan but I am considering the AMD 390 for this coming Christmas (since I don't have the 980 budget).

Cheers,

G.

Timely thread! My 670 still works well in games, but I too was thinking about either the 970 or 390. The 390 is a little power hungry though I think, and can run hot. Great card for the price though, with 8gb vram.

Your CPU is not so old, I was running my CPU 2500K @ around 4,2 GHz. So I would take the GTX 980 Ti  especially when you are playing only at 1920x1080

Windows 10 | i7-8700K@5GHz | 2080 Ti | Intel Z370 Chipset | 32GB RAM@1866 MHz | SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 1TB| Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS w. To do the GTX980ti justice I would suggest a nice big monitor at 1440p or greater.
