Unhandled Exception - Unable to Create Process dcs_protect.exe

Recommended Posts

When I start the dcs open beta, I get message "Unhandled exception in the Host Library (thread 6332)" and DCS does not start. The message detail says that DCS is unable to create process dcs_protect.exe. I have attached the actual message dialog.

I tried starting with the launcher and with dcs.exe (including as admin).

I tried several updater repairs but no luck. I have the Oct. 2 update, version 1.5.0.45208.

System:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit 6.1.7601 SP1

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz

GPU: ASUS GTX680-DC2T-2GD5

Driver: ASUS 9.18.13.4752 (2015-02-05)

Mem: 8GB

Thanks!

Problem with OpenBeta 1.5 - Unhandled Exception.doc

I appear to be the only one getting this problem so far, but my 1.2 DCS works just fine. Anyone else getting this problem and are unable to start the new beta at all? As I understand it, dcs_protect.exe is for StarForce DRM.

I'm green with envy at all the great new screenshots and videos.

Cheers!

Thanks, but still no luck for me. I have COMODO too. What did you change the DCS.exe rule to? Mine is set to "Allowed Application". All my other DCS exe files are also set to "Allowed Application" (I added msc.exe and unit_tests.exe to the list just in case).

Update: Problem still exists with the latest beta update, 1.5.1.46722. I've tried uninstalling BitDefender AV and running the DCS beta but still get the dcs_protect message.

Good point plehmann; I'll do that in future.

FYI, I'm working with the StarForce folks to try and debug the problem right now. No luck yet, but I'll let you know if we make any progress.

Should work after you installed Visual c++ redistributable 2013

Thanks sFalcon. I tried installing the Visual c++ redistributable 2013 and updating DCS to 1.5.47025 but I still get the dcs_protect.exe error.

I finally got the beta to work. The StarForce support person suggested that I try installing the beta outside of the "Program Files" folder (e.g., E:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta). This method worked and I did not need to run as an admin.

Glad it worked for you!

Fyi, I always install all my games outside of Program Files folder, to avoid issues such as this.
