kripzoo Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) We need more "violent" and louder sounds for the wepons. Currently they sound weak and low volume in cockpit/external when firing IMO. Example the sound of the 30mm in Su25 now sounds more like a vacuum cleaner than an autocannon. Edited October 10, 2015 by kripzoo
shagrat Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) The in-cockpit sound represents the fact that pilots wear helmets and headphones to minimize distracting sounds and make radio communication possible. The difference to "normal" games or movies is that these are done with soundEFFECTS rather than a representation of real life. Similar to typical lens flare effects people see in the movies and expect in the game, though the human eye does not produce any "lens" flare effect, for sure. For example a 30mm gun firing on a jet flying at 450kts will definitely sound totally different than a similar gun fired on a stationary IFV on the ground. Wind speed, ground reflecting sound waves etc. all affect how the waves are modulated and reach our ear... With a sealed cockpit around you and a padded helmet, plus a headphone, I wonder if you hear the gun at all. Most likely you would "feel" the vibrations through the airframe and the high cracking sound merged into a constant brrrrrrrzzzzz as the fighter jet guns have a very high cadence. kripzoo Posted October 10, 2015 Author Posted October 10, 2015 (edited) Yes i agree you with the fact that, the helmet/headphones muffles lot of external noises around the cockpit. But the cannon sounds should still beat the engine noises when firing. Those are extremely loud things in real life. Atleast the internal sounds should be increased. Example Su-27, where the cannon's muzzle is almost in side of the canopy, in that thing i think the pilot really knows when he's firing the gun :D The muzzle blast/flash really beats the side of the canopy... shagrat Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 You can balance the different volumes in the options, if you want the external sounds more present. But maybe a subject matter expert (pilot who actually fired a gun in a jet) can chime in? As far as I know, ED has access to some real pilots as subject matter experts. I personally think it is due to the air ripping the sound from the muzzle at high speeds, that much of the noise is deflected aft of the plain when firing, but that's just a guess. I never sat in a jet firing a gun, so I can only assume ED is doing it as close to real life as possible. :dunno: Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
vicx Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Combined Arms ground units could benefit from punching the sound a little harder. Eardrum shattering would be great :)
