Pilotasso Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 About the Golden Eagles, why are they not considering the F-22's engines? IIRC, they put out 35,000lbs of thrust which is more than the F-15E's engines right? They wouldnt fit and the forces surpass the structures limits after the brute thrust they provide. You would litrealy tear the airframe appart with them, or at least reduce its usefull life to a fraction of what it was designed for. There is no much reasons to give F-15A/C's the 229 engines because nowadays other factors easely supercedes the engines in importance level to be successfull in combat. .

Most F-15's never pass Mach 1.8 these days. Not because they cant, they can easily break Mach 2.4-5, but because they dont NEED to. While the P229 would be a great improvement, it's not needed. What is needed is life extending modifications to avionics, TEWS, radar and LO elements. The F100-P220 is still one of the most powerful engines in the entire world. I've spoken to several IP's from the Oregon ANG who say they have to conciously AVOID breaking Mach because of the raw power the F-15 has.
Anytime Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 OVER-G OVER-G OVER-G, give the pilots to much power and they'll break the thing apart :) You can't trust em :P

No, speed is still very important in BVR. Offensively, you want to be going as high and as fast as possible at Fox to give your missiles the greatest smash possible. Defensively, it gives you the option to easily disengage and extract yourself from a potentially unfavourable situation. There are only a handful of ways to shrink the enemy's weapons employment envelope. Being fast is one of them - if you can't be stealthy, be fast. Iraqi MiG-25s were ridiculously hard targets to shoot down because they were just so fast.
tflash Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Even more, being fast is an integral part of being stealthy in the case of F-22. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
