Still fighting with a poroblem: once upon a time I could use without problem the "Save ti AVI..." option inside FC. In some momento I installed some codec and after that, that menu worked anymore. Everytime I try to use it, FC just closes.

Just yesteray I realiced of the existance of the error.log file under FC directory, and mae a test. I tried t make an avi, FC quited as I predicted. Looke iside the error log and found this:

Enumerating video codecs

0: Trying to open iccvid.dll codec... Cinepak Codec by Radius - success

1: Trying to open msh263.drv codec... failed

2: Trying to open ir32_32.dll codec... Intel Indeo® Video R3.2 - success

3: Trying to open ir32_32.dll codec... Intel Indeo® Video R3.2 - already enumerated

4: Trying to open iyuv_32.dll codec... Códec Intel IYUV - success

5: Trying to open msrle32.dll codec... failed

6: Trying to open msvidc32.dll codec... Microsoft Video 1 - success

7: Trying to open msyuv.dll codec... failed

8: Trying to open msyuv.dll codec... failed

9: Trying to open tsbyuv.dll codec... failed

10: Trying to open msyuv.dll codec... failed

11: Trying to open msh263.drv codec... failed

12: Trying to open msh261.drv codec... failed

13: Trying to open huffyuv.dll codec...

I looked for that file, and they are in the win/system32 directory.

Any ideas? solving this I guess it could solve the video maker problem I guess.

I also checkd the properties of the files: all of them are readable. (Unistalling all my codecs also didn´t worked)

If anybody could help here would be graet, thanks

Do you remember what codec you installed? Some codec pack maybe? Ace Mega Codec pack?

It is very dificult to uninstall those codec packs and generaly they are old and give a lot of problems. A Windows repair instalation sometimes helps (although I don't like reinstaling things)

If you find out what codecs are exactly causing the problems and from what "codec pack are they" you could try to uninstall them one by one manualy with regsvr32 command at the command prompt or even use some primitive uninstaller that the codec pack may have.

After uninstalling the codecs you coud try to install again the original codecs. Try to install first the codecs from microsoft as they are generaly used and many of them get corupted by the codec packs I mentioned. Then put back xVid, Divx, AC3 filter, Quick time alternative, Real alternative, Lame MP3 (ACM). You can find free codecs at... http://www.free-codecs.com . FFdShow is another good filter but after some issues I stoped using it, many are happy with it though. FFdShow practicaly can decode Xvid and DivX without the need for the codec libraries.

Good Luck.

P.S. Obviously I am not a codec guru but since noone responded... :D

Try using the REGSVR32 app to register the codecs ...

Also, look for an app called GSPOT - it allows you to see what codecs a file needs.

Thanks all for the help.

REGSVR32... mmm don´t know how to use it. I do have gspot, I will see what reports and give and update here.

Also; i have already unistalled all codecs packs I could have installed, that didn´t helped. The packs I remember I had were: alparisoft (sincve somewhere here recomended), 6in1 codec pack (recomended in some post here too), and the usuals: divx and vidx, nothing "strange" really

Thanks

I use ffdshow latest build from somewhere.....real alternative, nvidia purevideo decoder, intervideo and quicktime+itunes for my ipod. better than installing all crap from codec packs. However, if u prefer packs and don't mind wasting resources to make sure every single media file plays /...get k-lite mega codec pack.

And also if you don't want to install codecs for all kind of movies in the world just install VLC Player (Video Lan Client) which is able to playback almost anything by it self. You can find it at http://www.free-codecs.com .

This way you can install only the codecs that you need for encoding and Xvid DivX for decoding movies with subtitles in a more... ergonomical movie player... like Media Player Classic :).
