Hi guys . I've been reading manual and i didn't find about the EORL thing. I know EO = Eletro Optics, but i tryed to google EO EORL and magically i didn't found an answer. :(. So i would like to clear things a little bit.

1- EO is stealth? Will it ring Any bells to enemy to: Press 3/4(CAC), O (EO), Enter (Lock), Space (Fire)??

2 - What is ILL that sometimes appears in the botton of the HUD? I guess this is some (ILL)umination prefix, so, for what? Laser? Radar? Will it show me on enemy RWR/TEWs?

3 - Sometimes, i'm flying and then try to lock and the EO changes to EORL and there's no (LA)unch on HUD, what is this EORL thing?

4 - I commit a lot of Fraticide using Russians planes, i guess it is because EO can't negotiate friend or foe due to be only visual, so if this is the case, should i turn on RADAR to know what i'm aiming at before shot??

I play Flaming Cliffs 3 through the DCS 1.5 Open Beta.

cheers.

The EOS (Electro-Optical System), aka IRST (Infrared Search and Track), or OLS (Russian for EOS, I think) is passive, the enemy doesn't get an indication anywhere if you scan with EOS.

That said, If you happen to lock an A-10C or Ka-50 from within roughly 5km, they will get a laser track warning, because the EOS has a laser rangefinder (LR) built in. In-game, the EOS automatically tells speed, altitude, and range to target well outside the laser's range...

2 - What is ILL that sometimes appears in the botton of the HUD? I guess this is some (ILL)umination prefix, so, for what? Laser? Radar? Will it show me on enemy RWR/TEWs?

When you have EO with ILL you are IFFing the target while tracking in EOS. It doesn't give a warning to RWRs, but like I said, anyone with a Laser Warning Receiver will get a warning if you're within a few Km.

3 - Sometimes, i'm flying and then try to lock and the EO changes to EORL and there's no (LA)unch on HUD, what is this EORL thing?

EORL means you're tracking a target with both the radar and the EOS.

Sometimes EO with ILL will switch to EORL, if the EO loses track. A good example of this is in dogfighting, the target passes under my nose and outside the EO's field of view, it will switch to EORL and tell that F-15 that I'm gunning him (not that he can do anything, anyway :D)

4 - I commit a lot of Fraticide using Russians planes, i guess it is because EO can't negotiate friend or foe due to be only visual, so if this is the case, should i turn on RADAR to know what i'm aiming at before shot??

If you're just using EO (EO at the top left of the HUD, no RL or ILL), you cannot IFF targets.

While tracking with EO hit I to switch to EO + ILL, that will give you an A or AFR if your display language setting is in English...A for hostile and AFR for friendly.

If you're using the Russian display language setting, its A or ACB (ASV in Cyrillic, actually).

EORL means you have a lock with both sensors, which will happen for a few reasons, if you are tracking a forward aspect target with the radar and he starts to maneuver against you, sometimes the plane will detect this and lock him with EO as well, sometimes you will see RL and then a few seconds later EORL and then a few seconds after EO, this means that the radar lost him but EO retains the lock. AFAIK this means your ERs will go dead.

you can fire any type of missile with an EO lock, but of course the radar ones will flip the radar on first, once it attains a lock you will get EORL as you have a lock. only infrared launches from EO are stealthy, but you can flip your radar in EO in order to IFF. for reference, AFR on the bottom left of the HUD while radar is on (ILL) means it's a friendly. the AFR will disappear as soon as you turn the radar off though, so don't assume that he's suddenly become a hostile.

rvotri try reading this article by santi871 about combat deployment in the su-27 it covers most every question you asked .http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=150315

Sorry razo+r I see u already posted the article.

OK, i downloaded the SU27 in the link that both Steve 65 and Razo+r posted, i'll take a look soon as i can, but for what i've read from Sweeper and Cik there i understood:

EO = Eletro Optic (No RWR)

RL = Laser (Will ring any LWR) (Will not ring LWR if DTT > than 5 km)

ILL = Radar (Will ring RWR) (Negotiate IFF)

Is that correct?

I realized that my manual mentions about EORL but it's in Russian, not as my cockpit shows it.

EO = Eletro Optic (No RWR)

RL = Radar lock (lock warning on RWR, IFF)

ILL = Radar on (Will spike RWR) (Negotiate IFF)

EORL = Electro optical lock + radar lock

^ fixed.

As far as I'm aware, the EO will always use the laser in STT mode.

Yeah! Lot clear now Santi!

That was probably the cause of the no "LA", i was seeing a enemy, then try to shoot a "R" type missile that turned the Radar on and IFF, showing me a Friend... (I didn't knew how to distinguish friend or foe in Russian planes)

Very nice! Thank'ya
