Ok reformatted my c drive, have played lock on a few times and now the stutters and pauses are back. It will pause for 1-3 seconds every 20-40 :angry:seconds are so. No mods are installed, everything is clean:badmood:? I don't have a clue what could be causing this. This is realy annoying :censored::furious: I feel like beating this computer to death :crash: it's driving me crazy.

EDIT: Also my FPS goes from 30 down to 15 back up to 30 during these times.

Its possible that your perfomance tweaks are gone since the format. Try this:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's possible to turn swap file off, but it can cause problems - some applications may not work properly. IMHO it's better to tweak a regedit.exe this way:

Find the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\SessionManager\Memory Management

1. Find the dword DisablePagingExecutive, double click it and set the value to 1 decimal - this allows Windows to keep data in memory instead of paging to harddrive.

2. Find the dword LargeSystemCache, double click it and set the value to 1 decimal - this allows Windows kernel to run in memory - improves system performance a lot.

Reboot your PC for the changes to take effect.

I use these settings with 1,5 Gig of RAM and it improved system performance significantly - especially in Lomac (actually Lomac is the only application that forced me to upgrade RAM to 1,5 Gig :rolleyes

Finally I found one more tweak tip, but haven't tried it yet so don't know if it works - here it is:

"Create a new dword and name it IOPageLockLimit - double click it and set the value in hex to 4000 if you have 128MB of RAM or set it to 10000 if you have 256MB or set it to 40000 if you have more than 512MB of RAM - this tweak will speed up your disckcache."

fastwrites off in BIOS?

I'll check when I get home

Posted

I had this problem with an nforce3 mobo and my 6800GT. (platform issue)

but fastwrites fixed it for the most part.

it could also be that your card is switching clocks from 2D to 3D while in game, thus causing the issue or because it's overclocked too high.

good luck.

I don't have it overclocked, and why would it switch from 2D and 3D?

Most new-er card have different 2D and 3D clocks. Sometimes there are issues and they switch back and forth between them, thus causing the pauses.

but go with the simpler things first, like the fast writes.

That didn't work, I'll try what Pilotasso said.

After doing a google search "audigy LS stutters", it seems that the root of those causes *might* be the soundcard (i know Cali, i remember you asking me if it was a good card to buy, i said yes, sorry, i know better now :() have you the ability of trying a different soundcard and seeing if it persists?

Come to think of it the problem started soon after I installed the sound card. I sold my other computer, but I'll talk to the guy and see if I can switch sound cards. My other card worked fine, so hopefully he'll trade me if it works. Maybe I'll try the onboard sound, it's a AC97, don't worry about it Mustang things happen. :punk:

there is a new set of beta drivers for the soudcard, check on the creative forums for them.

you could also post your error log to see if there are any sound problems.

I just saw that, I'll have to check them out when I get home. I don't hear any sound problems, the game freezes up and the sound seems to be fine. But if the new drivers dont work I'll trade sound cards with my friend.

yeah, could be a hung DX call/codec issue..

I know I've had a lot of problems with my X-fi as well (same brand) the card kicks ass when it works, but when it doesnt... %^$%#@$%

and now that I think about this, I've actually experienced something similar to this lately.

never looked at the framerate, but my game would completely pause, then continue after .5 of a sec like nothing happened. (completely random too)

And this is a completely different issue than what I've mentioned before (post #5 and #7 with similar symptoms) which could also be the culprit.

NEODARK, I never had this problem before with my old sound card. Like I said I'm going to try the new drivers. If they don't work then I'll get my old sound card back (hopefully that will fix it).

Ok new drivers didn't work either, old sound card is next.

Thats sucks, let me know if that fixes it. At least we'll know whats causing it.

Will do

Using on-board sound now and still having the same problems:no_sad:. I disabled fast write in the BIOS and that didnt help. I think I'm going to reinstall sound blaster audigy again and try some other stuff. :( This really sucks :cry_2:

So it wasnt the sound card after all....

well, at least thats good news, but the bug still remains. (lovely being in a dogfight then freeze, then boom you are dead lol)

I have no idea what is causing this problem. It does suck being in a fight in the mountains and it freezes, and I pray that it unfreezes before I hit the ground.

I wonder if it is my harddrive, I didnt notice this problem until I installed this 2 new things 1. harddrive 2. sound card. Since I uninstalled the sound card and still had the same problem, maybe my next step is to get a new harddrive. I changed the paging file to 4092 since I have 2 gigs of dual channel ram. Agggghhhhh I added the RAM also  maybe it's that also. Maybe I just need to get a whole new system.....wait I have no money :no_sad::censored::wallbash::crash:

nothing wrong with your system cali .. good enough to play lockon...

...i would try with the graphics and all effects set to low and off....

see if the stuttering goes away with that...., just a test to see if its graphic issue...

mind and set hardware sound accel to standard or basic....try that

It's hard to tell, but have you noticed if the stutters occur more while the game is accessing files - say if you have an AWAC shout do you sometimes get a pause just before they speak? or when the CPU is being worked heavily - say things are spawning or lots of missiles are being fired off screen?

Also - if you hit pause the moment a stutter starts, wait till TIR starts responding again then unpause, do you still have no control of the plane for a few seconds even though the game is running normally in all other ways?

I ask 'cause I've been getting occasional stutters - I think since I changed to an nvidia card, & this is what happens with mine if I hit pause, but I think it may have something to do with accessing files.

I might try flying in a window with the task manager performance page open & see whether the CPU is having a fit during the pauses, or getting free time.

Cheers.

Thinking about it more - my stutters are worse while flying NOE, & you mention waiting for the plane to hit the ground while mid stutter.

That makes me think file access - LOD loading or similar.

Perhaps LOD's that are not accessed while high.

Cheers.

I used to have the problem you have occuring.

That pagefile size is waaay to large, and useless.

Keep it to 1.5 -2 x your ram. No higher.

Also is the pagefile on the same windows partition, or another partition?

Since I upgraded to 2x36GB WD Raptors spinning at 10000rpm :p

Ive never seen any pauses yet.

My strong belief is a HDD problem accessing the virtual ram.
