Bombing pipper erratic in 1.5?

Recommended Posts

In 1.5, the pipper for in bombing mode gives erroneous info, it is virtually impossible to hit anything relying on it. I don't have that problem in 1.2.16.

That's strange, I just made the bombing training (and then I stumbled on your post) I was happy with the sight, hitting everything consistenly, with bombs and guns, maybe you set your ASP incorrectly?

Yes,yes ASP is still very far from reality-unfortunately.

Well, first of all in 1.2.16 everything works well, I can bomb quite precisely. In 1.5, the pipper doesn't come up the way it does in 1.2.16, and when it shows, it is way off the mark. Gunning and rockets work perfect. I set the ASP in bombing mode, unlock the tactical drop etc ... Is there something else I have to do compared with rockets?

Hm,real ASP-21-PFD does not have CCIP mod.In 1.2.16 is bombing mod algorithm very probably

borrowed from SU-25A(FC3)aircraft.

Maybe try with fixed radar beam, I can't think of anything different from 1.2.16 right now.

At what range are you dropping - and which dive angle? When I did my tests I was dropping at range ~1.2km, dive around 30° with fixed beam, maybe it was too close to detect a problem. I'll try again with different parameters.

You need to be steady on your attack run too, or the piper might become jumpy.

I remember reading about that too, strange I can still hit something. Will do more tests

That might explain it!

Yes, your parameters seem right to me. I also take about 30 degree dive, in idle, and try to release around 1 mile or so (when the red light appears), which falls short of the target. 1,2 kilometers might be better. If there is actually no CCIP in play, then I just will have to do some better calculation indeed!

In 1.2.16 the pipper really behaves like in CCIP mode: it moves up when you are nearing the target, when it is over the target the red light appears and you release.

I have issues with wind... if there is any wind the pipper kicks off to the left of the site when Bombing. You would think that it would be correcting for the wind but it doesn't matter the direction you approach its always to the left of center... the bombs generally hit where you would imagine the pipper should be. Not where the pipper displays on the site.

I also have this issue with the bomb pipper staying in 7 o'clock in the ASP no matter with or without any G's, in a dive or on the ground. It just stays like this. On the bombing run that position is giving the right impact point if you do the bomb run correctly and against the wind (or on the wind's direction) Is it the same on the real plane? I don't know, but i don't think so...

I meant to add when there is no wind in the mission, the Pipper works as its suppose to and very accurate.:pilotfly:

Sorry guys, but this discussion is more-less worthless, because sight(ASP-21-PFD)in this simulation does not represented real sight.

In real life a pilot has at one's disposal a bomb charts. There he can find proper values of A/C speed, height, dive angle.Next, there is value of aiming angle, which he must set on sight,by rotation knob on right side(ANGLE SCALE).

The switches on head of sight must be set in: B,MAN and SS position-nothing more.

So, discussing anything that is not 100% realistic is worthless? Haha funny.

Anyway, I remember a statement about dropping the A/G CCIP completely but I just don't know what's the plan... If this capability will remain, then it should be debugged (I personaly don't mind having it, it's better than nothing and I probably won't drop any bomb using the charts anyway).

I thought it will be removed in 1.5 (as an option). Anyway, I'd rather have realistic but inaccurate and hard to use ASP (tables, angles, etc) than unrealistic and buggy. :D

Yes,I do fully agree,it is the right way.When reality,so reality,when fidelity,so fidelity.It would be a pity,to let our beautiful MiG halfway.

I just want to drop a bomb on something consistently. love the Mig and I like the site when it there is no wind.
