I have spent a great amount of time yesterday at two of the MP servers, flying mostly the 109 and the 51.

Everything was great, including a lot of "kills", and I am really learning how to manage the power in the latest version of the 109 k4.

One aspect that I think could get some attention from the dev team are the engine sounds, specially the prop sound when operating at the lower, recommended, ATA cruise settings.

If we get to 1,1 ATA or lower the prop sounds as if it was idling / windmilling ? Lower settings of 1,0 and 0,9 aggravate the effect.

Sound is a serious immersion element. Hence, I've always sought out Mod's to help improve that.

so far, this has some promise:

Probably not the answer you're looking for. But I do like this particular Mod.

Agree, a mod would be the best option to look forward to in my opinion. I'm currently working on finishing my public release Bf109 K4 sound mod this week:

(Pls note this footage is of the beta version. The release version has been made bug free and improved significantly).

Sounds nice. I hope it will not be louder than other game sounds though. You know, the diveplane's mod made it realy easy to hear an enemy before he was even close, which was almost a cheat.

Otherwise, I think it is the best sounding 109 mod, just few quirks are out there, but you are aware so... :) Good luck

The sound of the engine should drown out other sounds in the cockpit.

Several times I have avoided being bounced because I heard the other aircraft.

Thx! About the sound issue this has to do with external sounds interfeerimg with cockpit sounds in DCS. External sounds on most planes are modeled way louder than cockpit sounds. Once another aircraft passes by the engine regulates the quiter sound down (in most cases cockpit sound) in favour of the louder. There's no way to effectively avoid this issue other than unnessecarily tuning cockpit sounds way louder than external ones, which obviously isnt a solution either.

I've changed the overall sound balance for the K4 quite a bit though (gun sound for exame are barely hearable if boosting the engine with MW50) so I guess the effect of aircraft passing by will be less noticeably, but I can't gurantee it's vanished.

The little work left includes some minor code tweaking as well as correcting one sample I feel out of place. Other than that it's good to go :)

I brought this issue to the attention of Yo-Yo several years back, in the P-51D beta, and he acknowledged that it isn't realistic. His explanation for why it's like this was ... confusing to me. Something about external sound levels needing to be the way they are for the sake of movie makers, but that doesn't make much sense to me, because DCS already has the ability to dynamically change the relative volume levels.

I'm sure it wouldn't be very difficult to adjust the system so that your own engine would always (while in first-person view) "over-ride" other aircraft engines, causing the dynamic sound system to drastically reduce the volume of the latter. This effect could be turned off by switching to external view, so that movie makers are unaffected.

I'm not the coder; maybe such an adjustment would be more difficult than it sounds. Still, the system's already there; seems like it would be a relatively minor adjustment.

Addendum: here's the link to the thread in question: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=94347

(I see he didn't specifically say movie-makers.)

I think that is a good idea. Then the reduced cockpit sounds will not be an impediment to simulating real world tactics.

So here it is finally! http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2569990#post2569990

Sorry for not including a preview video, having a hard time recording and compressing footage currently. I will hopefully be able to put sth up as soon as possible.

Also pls consider this as a first release, things might added, changed or fixed in future.

Hope you like it! Feedback is appreciated.

What's the simplest way to install it on 1.5 beta ?

I know I could get that "mod's" app going, but it's going to be my only mod, so, would rather prefer to install it "manually"...

Thx 5tuka! Looking forward to hear it :-)))

Well JSGME is the preferrable way because you don't have to worry about making backups and mod files being replaced with game updates.

If you go for manual installation open the extracted Bf-109K4 IDB Mod and drag the folders "Mods" and "Sound" into your DCS World main directory.
