Any Negative Issues Updating to Windows 10?

I have Windows 7 Pro since 2011 on my Alienware Aurora R3. I am happy enough with Win 7.

Pros or cons concerning upgrading to the next tier?

Well it brings the new DirectX 12 which will be used in newer games. Also new software is made to be compatible primarily with W10 so it's more future proof.

Ragarding the performance I haven't noticed any change tbh.(Some report slight increase)

As for the cons, there might be some driver issues especially with older hardware.(I had to roll back to older drivers on X-52Pro to make the joystick work:joystick: )

And after all you have one month to return to win 7.

I was in the same situation - went from Win 7 to 10. For me, the biggest issue were saitek drivers for X65f. Last beta build is stable enough, though.

Everything else went smooth. Of course there is a bit of learning curve as with any other new OS, but it's not a big deal because Win10 is rather smart piece of software - it really scales and accommodates well to user's previous habbits.

I'd say go for it. Pretty straightforward. Just be patient during upgrade because it could take time depending on what you have in your computer.

If you do an upgrade, you have one month (that's how long win 10 keeps old system backup) to revert to win 7 if you find that it doesn't work for you.

I vaugley remember reading something about having to deactivate all modules before upgrading, is that necessary? I am about to bite the bullet also.

I didn't and had no issues.

The only issue I have with Win 10 is that it doesn't like when things like rudders or joysticks get unplugged sometimes. Causes the mouse cursor to go all juddery and I get funny beeping sounds requiring me to reboot. Other than that it's been totally pain free.

All same here, no deactivation, no issue. I'm using Saitek pedals, HOTAS Warthog and TrackIR 5, everything worked.

I had this Saitek unplugging issue from time to time with Win7, but after updating to Win10 it now happens 100% of the time, I just can't unplug the pedals while the PC is powered anymore, must shutdown first

When I upgraded from 7 to 10 it worked well for a week or so... then all the sudden windows went corrupt, I couldn't repair the installation. I had to grab all my DCS keybinds via command prompt (been a long time since I had to do that).

I ended up doing a fresh install of 10 a few months ago and have had no further issues.

So, my suggestion to anyone looking to upgrade would be what people should be doing anyway... back up your important stuff before doing your upgrade.

I've had one teensy weensy problem (nothing big). Apparently some people with certain ASUS motherboard have an issue where the Warthog HOTAS and/or the Saitek rudder pedals can prevent the screensaver from activating. I had that issue for a while, but it seems to be sorted out. I loved Windows 7, I loathed Windows 8, I loved Windows 8.1 and I love Windows 10!

My only issue with Win10 is that my monitor will never turn off nor will a screen saver run. Might be the controller thing above, something to look into. Other than that very minor thing, it works well. The switch didn't result in a measurable performance change in DCS, BoS, RoF, RomeII or anything else I play. Regardless, Win10 is effectively the result of taking the basic design of Win7 and then adding the best parts of Win8.1 to it while skipping most of the garbage. The end result is a very nice OS. Overall I like it better than win7, but 7 did have more user control over certain aspects.

Unplug everything (keyboard and mouse included) from the USB bus, set the screensaver to activate after one minute, then connect one device at a time. Let the screensaver activate before plugging in another until you find the culprit(s). Yes, there can be several.
